Job Title: Test Technician / Lead Test Technician

Job Description

This role performs a wide range of electrical tests and inspections on power distribution and control equipment, systems, and components in accordance with UL, NEC, IEEE, and NETA standards. The Test Technician applies strong technical expertise to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, analyze test results, and provide detailed reports to engineering and leadership teams. The position plays a key role in ensuring product safety, reliability, and compliance with all relevant electrical codes and industry regulations. A lead-level technician will additionally provide technical leadership and guidance based on greater years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive electrical testing and inspection on equipment, systems, and components in accordance with UL, NEC, IEEE, and NETA standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with UL, NEC, IEEE, NETA, and other applicable electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards during all testing activities.
  • Utilize technical expertise to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on power distribution and control equipment, identify root causes, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • Analyze test results, interpret data, and prepare detailed, accurate reports for Engineering and Management teams.
  • Identify potential safety risks in electrical systems and collaborate closely with engineering teams to implement preventive measures and improvements.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and care for test equipment regularly to ensure accuracy, reliability, and safety.
  • Collaborate with Electrical Engineers, Project Managers, and other team members to plan, coordinate, and execute testing activities efficiently.
  • Work with transfer switches, switchgear, switchboards, control panels, and related electrical power products during acceptance testing and troubleshooting.
  • Read and interpret electrical blueprints and schematics to guide testing, troubleshooting, and verification of equipment.
  • Support engineering efforts related to electrical systems and components by providing feedback from testing and field observations.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and industry practices to validate product compliance and quality.
  • For lead-level roles, provide technical direction, mentorship, and leadership to other technicians during testing and troubleshooting activities.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of experience in electrical testing and inspection of equipment, systems, and components.
  • At least 3 years of experience with transfer switches and switchgear, including acceptance testing and troubleshooting.
  • At least 3 years of electrical troubleshooting experience on power distribution and control equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical acceptance testing, including voltage measurements and functional verification.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical blueprints and schematics accurately.
  • Engineering experience within electrical systems and/or components, supporting design, validation, or troubleshooting.
  • Strong familiarity with electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards, including UL, NEC, IEEE, and NETA.
  • Proficiency in using electrical test equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering and project teams and communicate technical findings clearly in written reports.
  • Electronics-focused experience is not applicable; must be in electrical power systems and equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • Medium voltage experience working with switchgear and related equipment is preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience overseeing testing activities or guiding other technicians is preferred, particularly for lead-level roles.
  • Experience testing products such as UL 891 dead-front switchboards, UL 414 utility metering enclosures, UL 1008 transfer switches, UL 508A control panels and service pedestals, ANSI metal clad switchgear, and generator connection enclosures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality in all testing procedures.

Work Environment

The role is based in a new, very clean facility featuring a modern open-concept office environment and an expanding engineering and production footprint. The Test Technician will spend the majority of their time in the test area on the manufacturing floor, working directly with custom-built electrical power distribution and control equipment.

The company is vertically integrated operation allows close collaboration between engineering, fabrication, assembly, and testing teams, providing exposure to the full lifecycle of custom electrical power products in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bedford, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
