Spree is a nightlife discovery and venue technology platform. We’re looking for our first full-time in-house engineer to join us long term and work directly with the founder across our mobile product and backend infrastructure.

This is a hands-on role with significant technical ownership. You’ll work within our existing production codebase, strengthen platform reliability, and build new consumer and venue-facing features as Spree grows. Maintaining and extending our PHP backend is a core part of this role, with a goal of migration to PostgreSQL in the immediate future.

What you’ll work on

- Build polished consumer mobile experiences with attention to layout, interactions, and performance.
- Develop and maintain backend APIs, database interactions, and business logic.
- Improve core flows including authentication, purchases, check-ins, and pass redemption.
- Debug issues across the mobile app, backend, and third-party integrations.
- Strengthen testing, deployment practices, and technical documentation.
- Work directly with the founder to turn product priorities into reliable, well-designed features.

What we’re looking for
\n

- Strong React Native / Expo experience, or substantial mobile development experience with the ability to contribute effectively in React Native.
- Strong backend experience building and maintaining production APIs and systems.
- Hands-on PHP experience strongly preferred. Candidates experienced in other backend languages are welcome, but must be able and willing to understand, debug, and extend our existing PHP codebase.
- Experience with SQL and relational databases; SQLite-specific experience is not required.
- Comfort with authentication, payment integrations, cloud infrastructure, and production troubleshooting.
- Ability to understand and improve an existing codebase.
- Strong attention to UI detail and consumer product quality, supported by examples of previous work.
- Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and exercise sound technical judgment.
- Experience with AWS, app-store releases, and maintaining live mobile applications is a plus.
