Position: Grounds Maintenance Worker
Reports To: Supervisor/Program Manager
Department: Randolph AFB, TX
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hourly Pay Rate: $24.31
($18.46 base + $5.85 H/W)

General Function
Responsible for the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds.
Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)
1. Perform grounds keeping and building maintenance duties.
2. Cut lawn using hand, power or riding mower and trim and edge around walks, flower beds, and walls.
3. Apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, ticks, and others.
4. Apply fertilizer to ground to enhance growth.
5. Shovel snow from walkways and sprinkle salt down to keep people from falling.
6. Sweep walkway of debris.
7. Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger.
8. Trim shrubs and pull weeds.
9. Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in grounds-keeping.
10. Rake, mulch, and prune the grounds as needed.
11. Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
· Ability to communicate effectively
· Ability to operate grounds equipment such as lawnmowers and chainsaws properly
· Attention to detail
· Ability to follow instruction to include OSHA safety guidelines to include personal protective equipment.
· Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
· Drug Screen, Motor Vehicle and Background Check: pass with ability to maintain throughout employment.
· Must possess a valid driver’s license and comply with all base, local traffic and hauling regulations.
Minimum Experience
· Previous experience performing grounds maintenance preferred.
Physical Requirements
1. Ability to lift and carry grounds keeping supplies and equipment weighting up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Prolonged walking or standing, and frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching on narrow, slippery surfaces on a daily basis.
3. Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual, electrically-powered and/or gasoline-powered grounds keeping equipment and machines.
4. Requires the ability to access facilities and areas which may only be accessible by climbing stars or by climbing ladders to a height of 25 feet (e.g. for tree trimming).
5. Must be able to move throughout assigned areas, as the work is performed primarily out-of-doors, year-round.
6.Exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions, exposure to dust, controlled and hazardous substances, pesticides, herbicides and gases moving machinery parts and heavy equipment.
7. Exposure to various insect and snake bites.
8. Normal manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination, corrected hearing and vision to a normal range and able to verbally communicate.
