Director, Data Governance (Remote - Florida Residents Only)

Lead the Future of Data at Nova Southeastern University

Nova Southeastern University (NSU) is seeking an experienced Director of Data Governance to establish and lead our enterprise-wide data governance program. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how one of Florida's leading private research universities manages, protects, and leverages its data to support students, faculty, healthcare providers, and university leadership.


This is a remote position; however, candidates must reside in Florida.


What You'll Do

As the Director of Data Governance, you'll build the foundation for trusted, consistent, and high-quality institutional data by:

  • Establishing and leading NSU's enterprise data governance program.
  • Developing and managing the university's business glossary, enterprise taxonomy, KPI dictionary, and metadata standards.
  • Driving data quality initiatives, governance policies, and stewardship practices across academic and administrative units.
  • Creating standards for certified data assets, reporting consistency, and semantic governance.
  • Partnering with IT and university leadership to improve data accessibility, literacy, and decision-making.
  • Supporting metadata management, knowledge graphs, ontologies, and modern data governance practices.
  • Building governance workflows that promote accountability, collaboration, and measurable outcomes.
  • Establishing a Data Stewardship Council and fostering a culture of data ownership across the institution.


What We're Looking For

We're seeking a collaborative leader who combines technical knowledge with exceptional relationship-building skills.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data/Information Management, Analytics, Information or Library Science, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of enterprise data governance, data quality, or data management experience.
  • 3+ years leading cross-functional initiatives.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience developing business glossaries and metadata standards.
  • Experience partnering closely with Information Technology teams.


Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following experience are especially encouraged to apply:

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Healthcare industry knowledge.
  • ETL/ELT familiarity.
  • Ellucian Banner experience.
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).
  • Microsoft Purview and Microsoft Fabric experience or certification.
