We're hiring a part-time Founding Engineer at Sunbird.
8 to 10 hours a week to start, with a clear path to the full-time role over time.
Up front: you need to be able to come into our Manhattan office once or twice every two weeks. This is hybrid, not remote. If commuting to NYC isn't possible, this isn't the right fit.
What we do. Sunbird is the only Android app that unites iMessage, RCS, SMS, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger into one inbox. Pre Series A. Second Beta. Thousands of users. Over $7M raised. Cost positive per new user.
What you'd work on. Kotlin and Jetpack Compose on Android. TypeScript on the backend. Our engine bridge over MQTT. A greenfield on-device AI stack (AICore, Gemini Nano, LiteRT with a Gemma 3n class model) to scaffold as your first major project.
Compensation. $125 to $175 per hour at the part-time stage. Full-time conversion is $120K to $160K base plus 0.5% to 1.5% equity.
You should be senior, fluent with AI-assisted coding tools (Claude Code is part of our daily workflow), and interested in growing into the full role over time.
