Job Title: Industrial Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining and improving automated tube forming lines, presses, and related production equipment in a high-volume metal exhaust system manufacturing facility. You will own a designated section of the plant alongside an engineer, taking responsibility for preventive and corrective maintenance, major rebuilds, process improvements, and technical training. The position combines hands-on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic work with troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of an assigned plant section in partnership with an engineer, ensuring equipment reliability, performance, and safety.
  • Perform maintenance on tube forming lines, presses, automated tube benders, welding machines, material handling robots, conveyors, and related production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot programming, fixtures, and production-related issues by operating and observing equipment, identifying malfunctions or non-conforming conditions, and adjusting machine controls as required.
  • Support the development of machine specifications for new equipment, machines, and tooling to meet production and quality requirements.
  • Investigate root causes of quality failures in forming, trimming, and sizing operations for bellows forming, and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Assist in training team leaders, maintenance personnel, and tooling staff on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and process improvements.
  • Monitor equipment cumulative cycles to plan and schedule predictive machine rebuild activities.
  • Lead and conduct major equipment rebuilds, including disassembly, inspection, repair, replacement of components, and reassembly.
  • Execute preventive maintenance activities and verify that work meets quality and reliability standards.
  • Assist in developing techniques and best practices for specified production processes such as tube welding, hydro-forming, assembly, and liner manufacturing.
  • Clean, inspect, and rebuild tooling, ensuring it is ready for production and meets specification requirements.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to minimize downtime.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues, including electrical and mechanical faults, and restore equipment to safe and efficient operation.
  • Complete required paperwork and documentation, including maintenance records, work orders, and updates to work instructions.
  • Support other departments with projects, upgrades, and specialized maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Apply Lock Out / Tag Out procedures independently to ensure safe maintenance and repair activities.
  • Rebuild pumps and motors using blueprints and schematics, verifying proper operation after repair.
  • Read and interpret electrical prints, blueprints, and schematics to diagnose issues and determine why equipment has failed or shut down.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience as a maintenance technician repairing industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 5 years of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic experience, including working with sensors, basic PLCs, electrical circuits, and performing volt meter readings.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical prints, blueprints, and schematics to diagnose equipment failures.
  • Proficiency in Lock Out / Tag Out procedures and the ability to perform them independently.
  • Hands-on experience rebuilding pumps and motors using blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Practical knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills for complex automated production equipment.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair of industrial machinery such as presses, tube forming lines, and automated systems.
  • Capability to perform preventive maintenance and major rebuilds on production equipment.
  • Ability to conduct and document maintenance tasks clearly and accurately.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with multiple priorities.

  • Welding experience.
  • Automotive industry experience.
  • Strong PLC beyond basic troubleshooting.
  • Fabrication skills for repair and modification of components or fixtures.
  • Experience with robotics, including material handling robots.
  • CNC equipment experience.
  • Exposure to roll forming, stamping presses, and robotic weld operations.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Beckhoff PLC troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting tube welding, hydro-forming, assembly, and liner manufacturing processes.

Work Environment

This role is based in a manufacturing facility that produces metal exhaust systems for automotive manufacturers, with significant tube bending, tube assembly, manufacturing, and shipping operations. The environment is fast-paced yet well-organized and clean, with some areas louder than others due to continuous machine operation; employees should be prepared for consistent industrial noise levels. The position supports multiple shifts, with openings on 1st shift depending on candidate preference. Standard scheduling follows four 10-hour days, with overtime typically occurring on Fridays for 810 hours, and only occasional Saturday work. Typical shift hours are 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for 1st shift and 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. for 2nd shift.

You will work with automated tube benders, welding machines, ABB and other material handling robots, conveyors, and advanced control systems, including Allen Bradley, Siemens, and Beckhoff PLCs. The role involves a mix of hands-on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic work, as well as preventive maintenance, rebuilds, and troubleshooting. Approximately 30% of your time will focus on cleaning, inspecting, and rebuilding tooling; 30% on preventive maintenance; 20% on assisting with equipment troubleshooting; 10% on paperwork and miscellaneous tasks; and 10% on assisting other departments with projects.

Dress code and safety requirements include compliance with all personal protective equipment (PPE) standards. You must provide your own steel-toe shoes and wear them at all times in the plant. The company supplies safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection to ensure a safe working environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Troy, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
