The Fiber Optic Cable Puller is responsible for installing, pulling, routing, and securing fiber optic cables in underground conduits, aerial applications, and inside buildings. This position supports fiber optic construction crews in building and maintaining communication networks safely, efficiently, and to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pull, lay, and route fiber optic cable in conduit, manholes, and buildings.
- Assist with setup and cleanup of job sites, including staging tools, materials, and equipment.
- Load and unload reels of cable and handle pulling equipment, ropes, and winches.
- Identify and prepare installation routes, including duct systems and aerial pathways.
- Work alongside splicers, linemen, and technicians to ensure proper installation and cable protection.
- Follow company safety procedures and OSHA standards at all times.
- Operate and maintain tools such as cable pullers, fish tapes, jetting machines, and measuring devices.
- Assist with labeling, documenting cable routes, and completing required job forms.
- Report issues such as damaged conduit, obstructions, or unsafe conditions to supervisors immediately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (CDL preferred but not required).
- Experience in telecommunications, electrical, or construction work preferred.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs and work in confined spaces or at heights.
- Knowledge of fiber optic cabling, conduit systems, and general construction practices a plus.
- Willingness to travel and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor and indoor job sites.
- Exposure to various weather conditions, noise, and physical labor.
- May require overtime, nights, or weekends depending on project needs.
