Job Description
This full-time Lead Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) / Digital Engineering (DE) Lead role is based in El Segundo, CA and focuses on supporting advanced space systems integration efforts within a mission-driven environment. The position leads MBSE and digital engineering activities, driving the design, analysis, and modernization of complex System of Systems (SoS) and Family of Systems (FoS) mission capabilities, while collaborating closely with government stakeholders and cross-functional engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Perform Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering (DE) activities in support of mission areas focused on space systems integration.
- Create and document analytic frameworks for modeling and simulating potential System of Systems (SoS) and Family of Systems (FoS) materiel solutions and concepts in relevant scenarios, in order to evaluate and recommend modernization changes.
- Develop analytic tooling and conduct trade study assessments of candidate surface, air, and space mission systems, providing recommendations for improvements and modernization.
- Design, develop, and test critical software applications across all phases of product development and operational deployment, ensuring robust and reliable performance.
- Translate customer and system requirements into resilient software and system designs using a test-driven approach to ensure quality and traceability.
- Collaborate closely with Systems Engineers and government customers to understand, define, and refine life-cycle requirement needs for complex mission systems.
- Ensure software and system quality by performing thorough requirements analysis, as well as detailed design and code reviews.
- Communicate project plans, tracking details, status updates, and risk mitigation strategies to cross-functional teams and stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.
- Support engineering management analysis and provide disciplined oversight to ensure that rigorous, pedigreed processes are in place for the delivery of high-quality products.
- Support the development, procurement, use, and maintenance of MBSE-based systems engineering software and tools, enabling effective digital engineering practices.
- Investigate and resolve software anomalies, system issues, and technical risks, providing corrective actions and preventive measures.
- Support the development and use of digital engineering environment tools, including devising internal integration of models and digital engineering ecosystems, and performing functional installation, setup, and maintenance of modeling and simulation software.
- Build and maintain system models to support architecture modeling, digital modeling, and analysis of complex mission systems.
- Support System of Systems (SoS) and Family of Systems (FoS) analysis by developing and refining MBSE models and architectures.
- Derive and propose innovative technical solutions that enhance mission effectiveness and system performance.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the contract digital engineering team, setting technical direction and fostering effective collaboration.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in a relevant field.
- At least 10 years of combined experience in industry, federal government, or SETA/FFRDC roles supporting federal government acquisition, with a focus on modeling, simulation and analysis (MS&A), digital engineering, or programming.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages and the ability to perform all programming-related duties independently.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and effectively apply acquisition regulations, laws, policies, and guidance, with proven results.
- Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and complex tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality and attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel as required to support mission and stakeholder engagements.
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Extensive experience building and maintaining system models for MBSE and digital engineering applications.
- Experience supporting System of Systems (SoS) and Family of Systems (FoS) analysis through system modeling and architecture development.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master of Science (M.S.) degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline is preferred.
- Knowledge of MBSE modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler and Sparx Enterprise Architect, including experience with MagicDraw and related modeling environments.
- Proficiency with MBSE modeling languages and frameworks, including SysML v1/v2 and the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
- Experience with digital modeling and architecture modeling for complex mission systems.
- Knowledge of Mission Engineering principles and best practices and their application to space and multi-domain operations.
- Experience with scripting and coding using Python and Java for automation, tooling, and model integration.
- Strong systems engineering experience, including requirements engineering, verification and validation, and life-cycle systems management.
- Ability to establish strong communication channels with customers and build solid, trust-based relationships.
- Proficiency with the Atlassian tool suite, including Jira and Confluence, for project tracking, documentation, and collaboration.
- Willingness and aptitude to learn new services, tools, and programs in support of evolving digital engineering ecosystems.
- Experience with Digital Engineering (DE) environment tools and integration of MBSE models into broader DE ecosystems.
- Familiarity with modeling and simulation (ModSim) software used in digital engineering environments.
Work Environment
This role operates within a military-focused space systems environment located in El Segundo, CA, supporting advanced integration efforts for space missions. The work is full-time and primarily performed on-site within a secure facility that requires an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. The environment emphasizes disciplined engineering processes, on-time delivery of high-quality, tailored products, and close collaboration with United States Space Force stakeholders. Team members use MBSE and digital engineering tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Sparx Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, SysML, UAF, and Atlassian Jira and Confluence, along with scripting languages like Python and Java, and various modeling and simulation software. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Segundo, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $90.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
