Job Title: DevOps Engineer
Job Description
The DevOps Engineer plays a key role on a cross-functional team focused on enabling a seamless, pain-free developer experience. In this role, you streamline and automate infrastructure, deployment, and monitoring processes, while helping to modernize and containerize existing systems and move them to the cloud. You collaborate closely with software and infrastructure developers to remove hurdles, accelerate capability delivery, and ensure applications are secure, performant, and easy to operate.
Responsibilities
- Automate infrastructure and tooling to streamline operations, deployment, and monitoring processes.
- Contribute to the design, implementation, orchestration, and maintenance of containerized environments.
- Use CI/CD pipelines to transform current infrastructure and containerize it for cloud environments.
- Leverage Kubernetes to orchestrate containerized workloads and ensure reliable, scalable operations.
- Maintain and enhance the DevSecOps pipeline, implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and security.
- Collaborate with development teams to optimize application performance and ensure seamless integration of new features.
- Develop and maintain cyber-secure infrastructure aligned with established security standards and best practices.
- Apply technical standards and methodologies creatively to solve complex engineering and operational challenges.
- Champion new ideas, technology trends, and process improvements that enhance the developer experience.
- Provide collaborative technical leadership within the team and help position others for success.
- Stay current with industry trends and proactively identify opportunities to operationalize new technologies.
- Work effectively in a flexible environment that embraces rapid change and emphasizes continuous learning.
- Support the modernization and containerization of existing infrastructure to improve speed, simplicity, and usability for end users.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, or Mathematics field, plus 2+ years of job-related experience, or a Master’s degree.
- Experience working in Agile environments.
- Basic Linux fundamentals and command line skills, with a strong preference for deeper Linux experience.
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes and container technologies.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD concepts and tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, or similar continuous integration platforms.
- Experience with container ecosystem tools and CNCF graduated projects such as ArgoCD, Prometheus, Grafana, Nexus, and Helm.
- Ability to use CI/CD pipelines to containerize existing infrastructure and deploy it to cloud environments.
- Experience with DISA cyber security standards and best practices.
- Ability to develop and maintain cyber-secure infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles and secure software delivery practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-changing environment and tackle new challenges.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship, as required for work performed in classified facilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
- Deep Linux administration experience beyond basic command line usage.
- Experience with cloud platforms and deploying containerized workloads in cloud environments.
- Familiarity with additional CNCF projects and modern DevOps tooling.
- Passion for improving the developer experience and reducing friction in shipping new features to production.
- Thorough knowledge of technology trends and a willingness to champion new ideas and process improvements.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development for yourself and support for the development of others.
- Strong collaborative mindset and ability to act as a technical leader within a cross-functional team.
- Ability to communicate clearly with developers, operations, and security stakeholders.
- Comfort working in environments that emphasize continuous learning and rapid iteration.
Work Environment
Work is performed on-site in a classified SCIF environment, with all duties conducted exclusively at the facility. The role is based in Manassas and offers the option to work a 9/80 schedule, providing flexibility in work hours while maintaining full-time commitments. The team focuses on modernizing and containerizing existing infrastructure to run more quickly and efficiently, making systems easier for submarine personnel to use and enabling migration to the cloud. The environment is highly collaborative and technology-driven, with extensive use of Linux, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Nexus, Helm, Jenkins, and Bamboo. While the position is initially fully on-site due to the classified nature of the work, there may be opportunities for remote work in the future as project and security requirements allow.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $52.00/hr.
