This onsite Test Technician role focuses on vehicle dynamics, body sealing, and intrusion testing within a dedicated automotive test facility. Working on a first-shift schedule in Milford, MI, you will support building 7 operations by conducting specialized tests related to water, dust, and airflow intrusion, as well as vehicle handling and inertia measurements. You will work hands-on with a wide range of vehicles, including competitor models, and play a key role in identifying potential sealing, structural, and dynamic issues during the vehicle development process. The position requires strong mechanical ability, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Perform vehicle handling tests using dedicated vehicle dynamics facilities and equipment.
- Conduct Vehicle Inertia Measurement Facility (VIMF) testing to measure vehicle inertia and center of gravity.
- Perform bench marketing tests on competitor vehicles to benchmark performance and characteristics.
- Conduct full body airflow tests by connecting airflow equipment to vehicles and measuring static body pressure.
- Identify potential sealing failures and body leaks during airflow and intrusion tests.
- Perform water intrusion tests using water tables and spray systems to evaluate water ingress and failure points.
- Perform dust intrusion tests using dust blow equipment to identify dust ingress paths and sealing issues.
- Proficiently dismantle and reassemble a variety of vehicles, including competitor vehicles, for testing and analysis.
- Support both the body sealing and splash group and the vehicle handling facility group within building 7 operations.
- Work with specialized rigs such as a four-poster rig to measure suspension articulation and vehicle dynamics.
- Collaborate with various internal groups involved in the vehicle development process to share test results and findings.
- Use computer systems to operate test equipment, record data, and document test procedures and outcomes.
- Manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while maintaining high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Demonstrate accountability by following test procedures, meeting deadlines, and ensuring the quality of work.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to coordinate test activities and report issues.
- Maintain and use personal basic hand tools safely and effectively, while utilizing available specialty tools on site.
- Apply strong time management skills by arriving on time, organizing daily tasks, and completing assignments in a timely manner.
- Exhibit a strong work ethic, demonstrating initiative, reliability, and a commitment to producing high-quality results.

Essential Skills
- At least 2 years of electrical and/or mechanical firsthand experience.
- Proven mechanical skills with hands-on automotive experience, including the ability to disassemble and reassemble vehicles.
- Mechanical ability gained through experience working on vehicles, such as in dealerships, independent shops, or performing interior and suspension work.
- High School Diploma required.
- Ability to use a computer and demonstrate basic computer literacy for data entry and test documentation.
- Strong time management skills, including punctuality and the ability to complete tasks within required timeframes.
- Task-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail in all aspects of testing and documentation.
- Effective communication skills to interact with multiple groups and convey test results clearly.
- Adaptability and flexibility to support different test groups and adjust to changing priorities.
- Accountability for work quality, adherence to procedures, and completion of assigned tasks.
- Ownership of basic hand tools suitable for automotive mechanical work.
- Demonstrated ability to work hands-on with vehicles in a testing, repair, or maintenance environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate degree in an automotive field preferred.
- ASE or State Master Mechanic Certification or equivalent experience is advantageous.
- 25 years of electrical and/or mechanical firsthand experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working with interior components, suspension systems, or general vehicle repair.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and desire to be successful in the role.
- Team-oriented approach with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- Experience working in hands-on automotive environments such as service centers, garages, or test facilities.
- Comfort working on a wide variety of vehicles, including high-value and competitor vehicles.
- Willingness to learn specialized testing procedures related to intrusion, airflow, and vehicle dynamics.
Work Environment
This position is based onsite in building 7 at a dedicated automotive test facility in Milford, MI, on a first-shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. You will work in a hands-on, garage-style environment that includes vehicle handling facilities, four-poster rigs, water tables, airflow machines, and dust blow equipment. The work involves regular interaction with vehicles on lifts, test rigs, and specialized test stations for water, dust, and airflow intrusion. You will use both your own basic hand tools and facility-provided specialty tools to perform mechanical tasks, teardown, and reassembly. The environment is highly collaborative, with multiple groups sharing the same facility and working on a diverse range of vehicles, including all major production models and competitor vehicles. The role offers extensive exposure to different vehicle platforms and advanced test setups, providing a dynamic and technically engaging workplace. Dress is typical for a hands-on automotive and test-lab setting, where practical, safety-oriented attire is expected to support safe and efficient work around vehicles and equipment.

This is a Contract position based out of Milford, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $33.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
