This role focuses on inspecting, testing, repairing, and maintaining fire sprinkler systems to ensure they operate reliably and comply with all relevant fire protection codes and standards. You will support the safety of building occupants by keeping wet, dry, and pre-action systems in optimal condition and by working closely with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to address issues and maintain the integrity of fire protection systems. Relocation assistance of up to $10,000 is available, and you do not need to be local to the Charleston area.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections and testing of wet, dry, and pre-action fire sprinkler systems to identify and correct issues or deficiencies in line with applicable codes and standards, including NFPA 25 requirements.
  • Prepare detailed reports that document inspection findings, test results, and any deficiencies or non-compliance issues, ensuring all documentation aligns with relevant fire protection codes and regulations.
  • Test and evaluate the functionality of sprinkler heads, valves, piping, pumps, and control systems to confirm proper operation and system reliability.
  • Inspect piping, fittings, and connections for corrosion, leaks, or damage, and recommend appropriate repairs or replacements to maintain system integrity.
  • Perform maintenance tasks on fire sprinkler systems, including replacing damaged or malfunctioning components, cleaning pipes and sprinkler heads, lubricating moving parts, and adjusting system settings for optimal performance.
  • Inspect fire pump assemblies, including testing flow rates, pressure levels, and mechanical integrity to ensure adequate water supply and system performance.
  • Respond promptly to service calls and emergency requests, diagnose problems quickly, and implement effective solutions to restore system functionality.
  • Document all service activities accurately and thoroughly, including inspection reports, work orders, parts usage, and customer notes, using the Service Trade operations platform.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to communicate findings, explain recommended repairs, and ensure that fire protection systems remain compliant and reliable.

Essential Skills

  • Solid understanding of fire protection codes, standards, and regulations, including NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and relevant building and fire codes.
  • Demonstrated experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire sprinkler systems in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently.
  • Hands-on experience working with sprinkler systems, backflow devices, fire pumps, and fire sprinkler inspection, service, and installation.
  • Ability to test and evaluate sprinkler heads, valves, piping, pumps, and control systems for proper functionality.
  • Capability to accurately document inspection findings, service activities, and parts usage within a digital operations platform such as Service Trade.
  • NICET certifications strongly preferred, with NICET Level II or above required for top technician levels.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Factory certifications for fire alarm systems are preferred.
  • Manufacturer certifications for sprinkler systems are preferred.
  • Certifications related to backflow prevention and fire pumps are preferred.
  • Experience working in commercial and industrial buildings, schools, hotels, and similar facilities.
  • Comfort using digital tools and platforms to manage work orders, reports, and customer communication.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development, including obtaining additional certifications supported by the employer.

Work Environment

Work takes place primarily in commercial and industrial buildings, schools, hotels, and similar facilities, focusing on installed fire protection systems in real-world environments. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with work performed both in mechanical rooms and throughout occupied and unoccupied spaces. You will use a company-provided truck, tools, and cell phone to travel to job sites and complete inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs. The role requires working safely around building systems and equipment, adhering to site-specific safety protocols, and maintaining a professional appearance appropriate for customer-facing environments.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charleston, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $41.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
