Job Description

Job Title: Systems Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on the early phases of the Systems Engineering V, with a strong emphasis on developing, decomposing, and managing complex system requirements and interfaces for large-scale, multi-disciplinary defense systems. The Systems Engineer will work extensively on requirements engineering, interface definition, and detailed technical documentation to support sophisticated system architectures and integrations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, decompose, and manage large volumes of system requirements, including thousands of individual requirements across complex systems.
  • Author, update, and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and other detailed technical documentation.
  • Define and document data, power, radio frequency (RF), and cabling requirements for system and subsystem interfaces.
  • Establish, document, and manage system and subsystem interfaces across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Support and maintain requirements traceability, including linking requirements to design, verification, and validation artifacts.
  • Support change management activities by tracking, assessing, and documenting changes to requirements and interfaces.
  • Collaborate closely with technical leads, program stakeholders, and customers in both virtual and in-person settings to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
  • Evaluate proposed technical changes and contribute to the development of engineering change products, including impact assessments and related documentation.
  • Participate in reviews and working sessions to ensure alignment of requirements and interfaces with overall system architecture and program objectives.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with requirements development and documentation for complex systems.
  • Strong experience with requirements engineering, including authoring, decomposition, and traceability of requirements.
  • Experience using DOORS, Engineering Requirements Documents, or similar requirements management tools.
  • Proven ability to write detailed technical documentation, with a strong preference for experience authoring Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Ability to manage high-volume, detail-intensive engineering workstreams in a structured and organized manner.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with technical teams, stakeholders, and customers in both virtual and in-person environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in electrical engineering domains such as RF, communications, power, and data systems.
  • Experience defining and managing data requirements, including data interfaces and data flows.
  • Experience defining RF requirements and working with radio frequency systems.
  • Experience specifying and documenting data, cabling, and power requirements for complex systems.
  • Familiarity with interface implementation, including understanding of radio frequency behavior, electromagnetic interference considerations, circuit logic, and electronic components.
  • Strong understanding of the Systems Engineering V lifecycle and its application to complex, multi-disciplinary systems.
  • Prior experience supporting Navy or other defense-related systems.
  • Experience with engineering change requests, including impact assessments and participation in review cycles.

Work Environment

The role follows a hybrid work model, with three days per week in the office and mandatory in-office presence on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The position operates on a 9/80 schedule, providing a structured yet flexible work arrangement. Work is highly collaborative, involving regular interaction with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders in both virtual and on-site settings, and centers on complex defense-system development using formal requirements and configuration management tools.
