Job Overview
Axcent Communications is seeking a motivated and hands-on IT Support Specialist based in the Woodbridge, NJ area. This position begins as a 90-workday probationary contract (1099) with a direct path to permanent, full-time employment. You will handle physical IT infrastructure deployment, conference room audio/visual setups, shipping logistics, data center maintenance, and end-user hardware support.
Must-Have Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle (Mandatory; no exceptions).
- Physical ability to lift up to 70lbs, work under desks, and use ladders.
- Proficiency using hand tools and power tools (essential for mounting equipment).
- Basic computer skills including MS Office Suite, Email and Database entry.
Core Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure & Hardware Setup
- Perform "rack and stack" equipment installations, patching, and power routing.
- Set up user workstations including PCs, monitors, cameras, and microphones (ensuring clean cable dressing under desks).
- Install, terminate, and test network and fiber optic backbone cabling (if needed).
- Build and install network racks and equipment cabinets (if needed).
Conference Room Audio/Visual (AV) Work
- Install and wall-mount commercial displays, TVs, and associated AV brackets.
- Deploy, connect, and route specialized cabling for conference room media systems.
- Configure associated AV peripheral equipment (soundbars, switchers, and control panels).
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve audio, video, and connectivity issues in meeting spaces.
Facilities & Asset Management
- Maintain, clean, and organize all IDFs, LAN rooms, and Data Centers.
- Swap, route, and neatly dress patch cords to keep rooms tidy.
- Inventory and organize IT storage materials (patch cords, power cables, etc.).
- Utilize asset management software to track all company IT hardware and devices.
- Coordinate the proper disposal or donation of retired IT equipment.
- Manage shipping and receiving of inbound and outbound IT components and hardware as needed.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot and resolve daily end-user technical issues.
- Collaborate closely with the core IT department on escalated problems.
- Assist the IT team with general technical tasks and operational projects as needed.
