SCHEDULEHybrid. Monday-Friday (40 hours per week), with 3 days per week onsite.
CONTRACT TERM1 year with possible extension and potential conversion to full-time employment.
POSITION OVERVIEW – Configuration EngineerSupport the Gas Power Engineering Configuration Management organization by transforming engineering requirements and design intent into accurate product definitions for Steam Turbine and Generator projects. This position will create and manage project structures and Bills of Materials (BOMs) throughout the project lifecycle while collaborating with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, and Project Management teams to ensure accurate and timely product configuration.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Creating and maintaining Engineering Bills of Materials (EBOM) and Unit BOMs throughout the project lifecycle
- Converting and pushing Manufacturing BOMs (MBOM) to ERP systems, including PowerMax
- Supporting the transition of project scope from Inquiry to Order (ITO) into the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system following Order Release
- Collaborating with Project Engineering to ensure timely and accurate handoff of project scope to the Configuration Management team
- Verifying configuration logic and ensuring accurate generation of product features based on selected configuration options
- Identifying and resolving configuration discrepancies in collaboration with engineering and configuration management teams
- Supporting Preliminary Bill of Materials (PBOM) review meetings for Steam Turbine and Generator products
- Validating standard parts selected through BOM rules and supporting Configure-to-Order (CtO) initiatives
- Working with Manufacturing and Sourcing teams to resolve BOM timing, accuracy, and connectivity issues
- Conducting regular BOM integrity monitoring and reporting
- Supporting Change Management activities and ensuring product configuration changes are properly implemented
- Collaborating with Sourcing, Manufacturing, Project Engineering, Design Engineering, and other cross-functional teams on continuous improvement and Lean initiatives
- Ensuring Configuration Management activities comply with established procedures, processes, and contractual requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related technical field
- Experience with product definition, Bill of Materials (BOM) management, or Configuration Management
- Experience working with engineering or manufacturing processes within a complex product environment
- Experience with project/program scheduling and/or field installation activities
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, and Project teams
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a cross-functional environment
- Demonstrated ability to learn and implement new tools and processes
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms
- Experience with EBOM, MBOM, Unit BOM, or product structures
- Experience with Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) or Change Management
- Experience with Configure-to-Order (CtO) or Variant Configuration
- Experience in a manufacturing, industrial equipment, power generation, or other complex engineered-product environment
- Experience supporting Lean or continuous improvement initiatives
