Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician with electrical and mechanical expertise to support our plastic recycling operations. The ideal candidate will ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of sorting, shredding, washing, and extrusion equipment. This role involves troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repairs to minimize downtime in a fast-paced recycling environment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair 480VAC, 3-phase motors, VFDs, and control panels for shredders, extruders, and conveyor systems.
  • Diagnose electrical faults in optical sorters, balers, and pelletizers using multimeters, meggers, and PLC diagnostics.
  • Perform bearing replacements, gearbox repairs, and belt/chain adjustments on conveyors and granulators.
  • Weld (MIG/TIG) and fabricate repairs on hopper liners, screw augers, and shredder blades.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic/pneumatic systems for bailing presses and material handlers.
  • Align and maintain extruder barrels, dies, and cooling systems to prevent production defects.
  • Address material jams, contamination issues, and wear-related failures in sorting/washing lines.
  • Optimize equipment to handle varied plastic feedstocks (PET, HDPE, PP, etc.).

Essential Skills

  • Experience with extrusion and plastic injection processes.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting extruders, thermoformers, thermocouples, and extrusion machines.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and motor control.
  • Expertise in electrical systems and welding.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with troubleshooting and repairing 480VAC, 3-phase motors.
  • Ability to diagnose electrical faults with multimeters, meggers, and PLC diagnostics.
  • Skilled in MIG/TIG welding and fabrication.

Work Environment

This role requires working the 3rd shift from 11:30pm to 8:00am, Sunday night through Thursday morning, with initial training on the 1st shift. The environment involves exposure to plastic particulates, heat from extruders, and occasional odors, with flexibility for overtime or emergency call-ins during breakdowns.

This is a Permanent position based out of Ladoga, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00/hr.
