Title: Data Analyst – Part-Time Student Worker
Job Location: Foster City, CA
Duration: ~6 months
The hourly pay rate is commensurate with experience and is an estimated rate provided by WorkGenius.
Schedule: Part-time, minimum 20 hours per week | Onsite
We are seeking a Part-Time, Student Data Analyst to support the data systems, analytics, and reporting used within advanced fleet operations.
This role will transform vehicle telemetry, service logs, dispatch information, and operational data into actionable insights that support operations, safety, and engineering teams. The position focuses on data analysis, SQL, reporting, KPI development, dashboards, and operational performance analysis. The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline and has a strong analytical foundation, hands-on SQL skills, and an interest in applying data analytics within a complex technical environment.
Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze vehicle telemetry, service logs, dispatch data, and operational metrics to identify trends and actionable insights.
- Build and maintain dashboards and recurring reports supporting fleet operations, safety, and engineering stakeholders.
- Define, track, and report on KPIs related to fleet performance, mission success, readiness, utilization, and operational efficiency.
- Create live operational dashboards to visualize fleet health, downtime, and operator efficiency.
- Aggregate and analyze large vehicle-performance datasets to identify opportunities to improve fleet utilization and reduce idle time.
- Ensure datasets used for reporting and analysis are accurate, structured, and reliable.
Data & Analytics
- Use SQL to query, manipulate, and analyze large datasets.
- Optimize database queries across SQL and NoSQL structures to improve retrieval of historical operational data.
- Use Python for data analysis, reporting, and automation where appropriate.
- Support automation of recurring reports and reduction of manual reporting processes.
- Create well-documented datasets and dashboards that enable self-service analytics.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with operations teams to understand reporting needs and business questions.
- Work closely with engineering and product teams to translate operational needs into analytics and reporting solutions.
- Interface with hardware and software engineering teams to ensure operational tools accurately reflect current system capabilities and constraints.
- Gather feedback from frontline operations teams to continuously improve internal tools, dashboards, and user experience.
- Communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Operational Insights & Process Improvement
- Identify inefficiencies, recurring issues, and performance gaps through data analysis.
- Provide timely, data-driven recommendations supporting operational decisions.
- Help establish structured feedback loops so operational learnings can be captured, analyzed, and shared across teams.
- Support continuous improvement of reporting, analytics, and internal operational tools.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, or a related discipline.
- Strong proficiency with SQL for querying, data manipulation, and analysis.
- Experience working with large datasets and translating raw data into actionable insights.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Ability to build dashboards, reports, and performance metrics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate findings effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work onsite.
- Availability to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.
- Ability to commit to at least a three-month assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Python experience for data analysis, reporting, or automation.
- Familiarity with Databricks or similar analytics platforms.
- Experience with SQL and NoSQL data structures.
- Previous exposure to fleet, logistics, transportation, operations, or vehicle data.
- Experience developing operational dashboards or KPI reporting.
- Interest in autonomous systems, automotive technology, robotics, or other advanced technology environments. Program Information:
This is a part-time student worker position, not a traditional internship. You will join the team directly and contribute to active projects while continuing your studies. This role does not include a structured internship program or a guaranteed pathway to full-time employment.
