Industrial Facilities & Equipment Maintenance Technician

Full-Time | Day Shift | Mishawaka, Indiana

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Industrial Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair production equipment, boiler and steam systems, HVAC systems, and company facilities across multiple local locations.

This position is for someone who has personally diagnosed and repaired industrial equipment—not someone whose experience is limited to operating machinery, supervising maintenance employees, or coordinating outside contractors.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, approximately 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
  • Full-time, 40+ hours per week
  • Must be available to remain on-site until urgent repairs are completed or safely transferred
  • Some Saturdays, emergency after-hours calls, and occasional Sunday boiler checks may be required

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair boilers and industrial steam systems.
  • Diagnose boiler pressure, water-level, feedwater, burner, valve, steam-trap, control, and condensate-return problems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair industrial washers, dryers, steam presses, conveyors, sewing machines, and other production equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, regulators, actuators, compressors, and air lines.
  • Repair motors, pumps, bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, sensors, switches, contactors, and machine-control components.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems using multimeters, schematics, wiring diagrams, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Diagnose and repair HVAC and refrigeration equipment and recognize when specialized outside assistance is required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, cleaning, adjustments, calibration, testing, and planned parts replacement.
  • Complete plumbing, lighting, door, lock, drywall, painting, and general facility repairs.
  • Document completed repairs, inspections, parts used, equipment condition, and follow-up work.
  • Follow lockout/tagout, boiler, electrical, ladder, machine-guarding, and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Prioritize safety hazards and production breakdowns while communicating progress and delays to management.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and technical support when specialized assistance is necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on boiler and steam-system experience is required.
  • At least three years of industrial, manufacturing, or production-equipment maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing production machinery.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, conveyors, pumps, motors, bearings, industrial electrical systems, and preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to use a multimeter and read equipment manuals, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Experience maintaining accurate work orders and preventive-maintenance records.
  • Ability to work independently and complete repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Sound judgment regarding when to continue troubleshooting and when to request technical assistance.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Dependable work history and demonstrated employment stability.

Work Style Expectations

The successful candidate will:

  • Take ownership of assigned work and follow repairs through completion.
  • Communicate progress, delays, safety concerns, and parts needs.
  • Accept direction and adjust priorities when business needs change.
  • Work professionally with employees, management, vendors, and contractors.
  • Complete both industrial-equipment repairs and general building-maintenance assignments.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and team-oriented attitude.

Travel and Physical Requirements

  • Regular travel between facilities in Mishawaka, South Bend, Granger, Elkhart, and Goshen.
  • A company vehicle is available for travel between work locations but must be returned to the designated company facility.
  • Candidates should preferably live within approximately 40 minutes of Mishawaka.
  • Ability to lift 70+ pounds.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, reach, climb ladders, and work around industrial machinery, steam, heat, noise, and outdoor conditions.

Competitive compensation is based on relevant industrial-maintenance and boiler experience.

Helpful but secondary experience

Experience with industrial washers, dryers, steam presses, dry-cleaning equipment, and sewing machines is helpful. However, someone with strong experience in boilers, steam, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, electrical troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance should be able to learn Ziker’s specialized machines.
