Job Description

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

\n

The InServ Internship Program is a hands-on, project-based experience designed to give students meaningful exposure to industrial construction and the opportunity to build skills for a career in the industry.

\n

\n

Interns are placed within one of InServ’s core divisions — Hygienic, Mechanical, Process Services, or Electrical — or in a specialized function such as BIM/VDC, based on their skills, experience, career interests, and project needs.

\n

\n

You won’t just be observing from the sidelines. Interns work alongside experienced InServ professionals and actively contribute to their assigned team. Depending on the assignment, you may support active construction projects and field operations or work primarily within BIM/VDC supporting modeling, coordination, fabrication, and project execution.

\n

\n

As you build knowledge and confidence, you’ll take on increasing responsibility appropriate to your experience.

\n

\n

WHAT YOU’LL DO

\n

Responsibilities will vary based on your division, experience, and assignment. All interns will have opportunities to:

\n

    \n
  • Support assigned project and department activities alongside experienced InServ team members.
  • \n

  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, BIM/VDC professionals, and other team members.
  • \n

  • Review drawings, specifications, and project information to understand project scope and requirements.
  • \n

  • Participate in project meetings, planning activities, and team coordination.
  • \n

  • Assist with project documentation, tracking, and coordination.
  • \n

  • Communicate project information and follow up on assigned action items.
  • \n

  • Identify questions, potential issues, and opportunities and work with team members to develop practical solutions.
  • \n

  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and follow them through to completion.
  • \n

  • Build greater responsibility and independence as your knowledge and skills grow.
  • \n

  • Follow InServ and project-specific safety, quality, and work practices.
  • \n

  • Complete required safety training and participate in jobsite safety activities.
  • \n

  • Communicate potential safety or quality concerns to the appropriate project or department leader.
  • \n

  • Follow established InServ standards for documentation, workmanship, and quality.
  • \n

  • Wear required PPE and comply with applicable jobsite requirements.
  • \n

\n

\n

IF YOU’RE ASSIGNED TO AN OPERATING DIVISION OR PROJECT

\n

You may have the opportunity to:

\n

    \n
  • Support day-to-day construction and field operations.
  • \n

  • Assist with RFIs, submittals, daily reports, drawing management, project photographs, and other documentation.
  • \n

  • Assist with material tracking, procurement coordination, deliveries, and scheduling.
  • \n

  • Compare drawings, specifications, and project requirements with work being performed in the field.
  • \n

  • Coordinate with field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • \n

  • Participate in construction planning, coordination, and work sequencing.
  • \n

  • Assist with quality-control activities, punch lists, and project closeout.
  • \n

  • Support other project management and field activities based on your assignment and experience level.
  • \n

\n

\n

IF YOU’RE ASSIGNED TO BIM/VDC

\n

You may have the opportunity to:

\n

    \n
  • Support BIM/VDC activities alongside experienced team members.
  • \n

  • Assist with the development, review, and maintenance of 3D models and BIM/VDC project information.
  • \n

  • Perform model coordination and clash-detection activities.
  • \n

  • Review drawings, specifications, and models to identify coordination or constructability issues.
  • \n

  • Document coordination issues and assist with tracking them through resolution.
  • \n

  • Assist with coordinated drawings, installation drawings, spool drawings, and other fabrication or construction deliverables.
  • \n

  • Participate in BIM/VDC coordination meetings.
  • \n

  • Support model-based planning, fabrication, prefabrication, and field installation activities.
  • \n

  • Collaborate with BIM/VDC, project management, fabrication, and field teams.
  • \n

  • Use construction technology and BIM/VDC tools appropriate to your assignment.
  • \n

\n

\n

LEARN FROM PEOPLE WHO DO THE WORK

\n

Mentorship and professional development are a key part of the InServ internship experience.

\n

Each intern will be paired with an InServ mentor who will provide guidance and support throughout the internship.

\n

Our goal is for you to leave the internship with a better understanding of your strengths, interests, and where they can take you in the construction industry.
