Cybersecurity Engineer 3 (Senior)
Position Overview
Cybersecurity Engineer 3 (Senior) provides advanced cybersecurity operations engineering support for a hybrid IT environment consisting of on-premises infrastructure and cloud-based systems (Microsoft Azure and M365). This role is responsible for implementing, managing, and continuously improving cybersecurity capabilities aligned with federal standards (NIST, FISMA, CISA) and ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of NIGC systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct ongoing security assessments of systems and networks and recommend corrective actions.
- Engineer, configure, and maintain cybersecurity tools including SIEM, SOAR, EDR, NDR, Syslog, firewalls, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud.
- Develop and enhance cybersecurity operations capabilities aligned with industry best practices.
- Perform continuous monitoring, threat hunting, and log analysis across systems.
- Lead incident response activities in accordance with established incident response plans.
- Develop detection, response, and automation policies to improve security posture.
- Collaborate with CISO and Privacy Officer to define cybersecurity and privacy strategies.
- Ensure proper configuration and operation of CDM tools and M365 cloud security solutions.
- Maintain threat awareness and proactively identify vulnerabilities and suspicious activities.
- Develop incident handling procedures and security operations SOPs.
- Generate cybersecurity performance metrics and threat intelligence reports.
- Support integration of security into IT systems and applications.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 6 years of continuous experience in cybersecurity operations or engineering (Senior-level requirement).
- Demonstrated experience in federal cybersecurity environments governed by NIST and FISMA.
- Hands-on experience with SIEM, SOAR, EDR, NDR, and cloud security platforms.
- Experience working in hybrid environments (on-prem + Azure cloud).
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Relevant certifications may substitute for formal degree; hands-on experience is mandatory.
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, FISMA, CISA directives)
- Expertise in Microsoft Azure security and M365 security stack
- Strong networking knowledge (Cisco, LAN/WAN, firewalls)
- Threat hunting, incident response, and log analysis
- Automation and scripting (e.g., PowerShell)
- Security architecture and systems integration
- Documentation and reporting
Certifications
- Preferred: CISSP, CEH, GIAC, Azure Security Engineer (AZ-500), Security+
- Other relevant cybersecurity certifications strongly encouraged
Clearance Requirement
- Must obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance, complete background investigation, and comply with all NIGC security policies.
Salary Range
- Competitive, market-based compensation, commensurate with experience and certifications, structured in alignment with the firm-fixed-price service delivery model.
