Commercial Accountant

Location: Tri-State Area (Maryland, Pennsylvania & West Virginia)
Position Type: Full-Time

We are a successful family-owned property management company seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Commercial Accountant to join our team. This position offers an opportunity to work in a collaborative environment where employees are valued and play an important role in the success of our commercial real estate portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting skills, excellent organizational abilities, and experience handling property accounting, tenant billings, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.

Essential Responsibilities

Property Accounting

· Prepare and process Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations.

· Bill tenants for property taxes, insurance, and other recoverable charges in accordance with lease agreements.

· Post monthly rents, rent adjustments, and late fees.

· Maintain accurate tenant ledgers and lease billing records.

· Rent Roll Audit

· Assist with annual commercial property budget preparation and analysis.

Accounts Receivable

· Generate tenant billings and invoices.

· Process and post receipts and tenant payments.

· Reconcile tenant accounts and resolve billing discrepancies.

· Monitor aging reports and assist with collection efforts on delinquent accounts.

· Maintain accurate accounts receivable records.

Accounts Payable

· Code and enter Accounts Payable invoices into the accounting system.

· Process payments for vendors, contractors, utility providers, and insurance carriers.

· Set up and maintain automatic payment arrangements for utility providers as needed.

· Verify invoice accuracy and ensure timely payment of obligations.

· Maintain organized vendor files and supporting documentation.

Reporting & Team Support

· Prepare and provide A/P and A/R reports for management.

· Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.

· Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting schedules.

· Learn accounting functions assigned to the Outsource Accounting Team and provide backup support when needed.

· Assist with special projects and other accounting duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.

· Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience; commercial real estate or property management accounting experience strongly preferred.

· Experience preparing CAM reconciliations and tenant billings.

· Knowledge of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and collections processes.

· Experience working with budgets and financial reporting.

· Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

· Experience with accounting and property management software preferred.

· Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.

· Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
