The Role
Client data reaches us as inbound feeds: X12 EDI 834, 835 and 837 files plus custom client formats. If that data is wrong, a member can’t log in, sees the wrong plan or gets the wrong price. You’ll own the full lifecycle of that data: how it arrives, how it’s validated and stored, how access is logged, how long it’s kept, how it’s de-identified for safe use in development, and how it is sent back to customers.
Some of our clients require that their data never leave the United States, so this role is US-based. You’ll report to our VP Engineering and work hands-on. This is not a management role.
What You’ll Do
- Run and own the production pipelines for eligibility, claims and remittance data
- Build these pipelines as scheduled, tested and monitored processes, with integrity checks that stop bad data before it loads, and bad data before it leaves, as well as alerts for exceptions and incidents.
- Put data retention, deletion and legal-hold controls in place, and build audit logging that traces any record from arrival to disposition and/or departure.
- Build HIPAA Safe Harbor de-identification so engineering teams can work with realistic, PHI-free data
- Produce system-generated audit evidence for SOC 2 and HITRUST data controls
- Work directly with clients’ technical contacts on file specifications and fixes
- Find the root cause of data issues and fix them so they don’t come back
- Write documentation and an onboarding playbook so a new client becomes a configuration change, not a code change
What You Bring
- 6+ years building and running production data pipelines in Python, Spring Boot (Java) and SQL
- Dagster, Airflow or similar, AWS (S3, Transfer Family, Secrets Manager).
- Experience with Automated PGP encryption/decryption file exchanges
- Hands-on experience with X12 EDI 834, 835 and 837, and with messy custom client file formats
- Experience handling PHI under HIPAA, including Safe Harbor de-identification
- Experience producing evidence for a SOC 2 or HITRUST audit straight from the system, reproducible and timestamped
- Experience supporting live production systems, including on-call
- A habit of writing tests as you build, and not calling work done until you’ve seen it run
- Clear written documentation that someone else can follow
- Based in the US and authorized to work here without sponsorship
Strongly Preferred
- Experience in benefits administration, health plans, payroll or another regulated eligibility domain
- Experience taking over a system someone else built and making it your own
- Experience with pipeline orchestration defined in code, plus monitoring and alerting you built yourself
- Docker, Github Actions

Compensation
- Base salary: 115k-150k, depending on skills and experience
- Annual performance-based raises
