Job Description

The Facilities Technician 1 is an entry-level, hands-on role supporting the maintenance and operation of a large retail shopping center. This position is ideal for mechanically inclined individuals who enjoy working with tools, fixing things, and solving everyday maintenance issues. Candidates with experience working on their own vehicles, home repairs, equipment, or other hands-on projects are encouraged to apply. You'll work alongside an experienced facilities team while gaining valuable skills in building maintenance, repairs, and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the engineering and maintenance team with the repair and upkeep of building systems and equipment, including basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC-related tasks.
  • Perform general maintenance duties such as minor repairs, painting, basic carpentry, light plumbing, equipment troubleshooting, and cleaning.
  • Complete assigned work orders and document completed tasks using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Maintain tools, equipment, materials, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Learn from and work closely with Operating Engineers, Chief Engineers, and experienced maintenance personnel.
  • Participate in ongoing safety, technical, and operational training programs.
  • Assist with emergency and after-hours maintenance needs when required.
  • Safely operate onsite equipment and vehicles, including a retail truck and sweeper.
  • Conduct routine inspections throughout the property and report maintenance concerns or safety hazards.
  • Support additional maintenance projects and facility needs as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • 1–2 years of hands-on mechanical, maintenance, repair, automotive, construction, landscaping, equipment operation, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience working on personal vehicles, motorcycles, small engines, home improvement projects, farm equipment, or similar mechanical projects is highly valued.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and solve basic repair issues.
  • Ability to work safely on ladders up to 30 feet tall.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including climbing, bending, kneeling, and lifting throughout the day.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with tenants, coworkers, vendors, and visitors.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to safely operate onsite vehicles and equipment.
  • Willingness to work a second-shift schedule, including weekends, as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Trade school, military experience, vocational training, or coursework in maintenance, automotive technology, construction, or a skilled trade is a plus.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) is helpful but not required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and following established procedures.
  • Interest in building a long-term career in facilities maintenance, building operations, or engineering.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take direction from experienced maintenance staff.
  • Entry-level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and a desire to learn are encouraged to apply.

Work Environment

This position is based at a retail shopping center in Roseville and involves working as part of a maintenance team of six. The shift runs from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday through Monday, providing a consistent schedule that includes weekend coverage. The role is hands-on and physically active, requiring frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working on ladders up to 30 feet. You will use a variety of tools and equipment, including a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), standard maintenance tools, a retail truck, and a sweeper. The environment includes both indoor and outdoor work within a busy retail setting, with free onsite parking available for convenience.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Roseville, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
