Job Description

Job Summary:

Telecom Technician III is a highly skilled technician responsible for the installation, termination, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation of structured cabling systems, including copper and fiber optic infrastructure. This position works with minimal supervision and serves as a technical resource on project sites, ensuring installations meet company standards, customer specifications, industry best practices, and safety requirements


Duties/ Responsibilities

  • Determine optimal cable routing and pathway installation methods based on project drawings and field condition
  • Install and support pathways including Unistrut, threaded rod, beam clamps, anchors, J-hooks, cable tray, and associated hardware
  • Install pull media, such as jet line and mule tape, in new and existing pathway
  • Pull, route, dress, and secure copper and fiber optic cabling in accordance with company standards and manufacturer specifications
  • Maintain accurate cable pull records and installation documentation
  • Verify copper and fiber cable installation locations against construction drawings, project requirements and specifications
  • Prepare, dress, terminate, and test copper cabling systems
  • Install and label copper patch panels, faceplates, jacks, and associated connectivity hardware
  • Prepare, dress, terminate, splice, and test fiber optic cabling systems
  • Install and label Fiber Distribution Units (FDUs), splice enclosures, and other miscellaneous fiber optic equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair copper and fiber cabling issues
  • Perform certification testing using approved copper and fiber test equipment
  • Analyze test results and identify deficiencies
  • Troubleshoot and repair fiber optic infrastructure issues utilizing OTLS and OTDR testing equipment
  • Buildout of various communications rooms including the installation of telecommunications racks, cabinets, cable management systems, and supporting hardware
  • Construct and modify pathways not provided by other trades as required
  • Ensure all installations meet applicable industry standards, Prisms quality standards and customer specifications
  • Implement corrective actions to resolve installation issues
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards before project turnover
  • Interpret blueprints, floor plans, specifications, and technical documentation
  • Update as-built drawings and project documentation as work progresses
  • Provide accurate progress updates to project leadership
  • Maintain detailed records of installations, testing, and repairs
  • Adhere to all company, customer, and site-specific safety requirements
  • Maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) in proper working conditions
  • Promote a safe work environment and participate in safety initiatives
  • Comply with OSHA regulations and company safety policies at all time
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of structured cabling or telecommunications installation experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in copper and fiber optic installation, termination, and testing
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, floor plans, and technical specifications
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Thorough understanding of structured cabling industry standards and best practices
  • Knowledge of TIA/EIA, BICSI, and manufacturer installation requirements
  • Ability to lead portions of projects and mentor junior technicians
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Effective communication and customer service abilities


Preferred Qualification:

  • BICSI Installer 2 Copper Certification.
  • BICSI Installer 2 Fiber Certification.
  • Fiber optic splicing experience.
  • Manufacturer-specific certifications.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work from ladders, lifts and elevated work areas.
  • Comfortable working in construction environments and clean room spaces.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces if required.
