The Facilities Technician supports the smooth operation and upkeep of the facility by handling a wide variety of hands-on tasks. This role focuses initially on dismantling cubicles and partitions to create an open office layout, while also performing general maintenance, light repairs, painting, and cleaning throughout the building. The position offers consistent full-time hours and the potential to transition into a permanent role based on performance and demonstrated value.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble cubicles and office partitions in unused areas to support a more open floor design for engineering teams.
  • Use hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers to safely take apart, move, and organize office furniture and fixtures.
  • Clear and clean work areas after dismantling projects, ensuring spaces are ready for new layouts and usage.
  • Perform painting tasks on walls, doors, and other surfaces as needed to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
  • Complete minor drywall and sheetrock repairs, including patching, sanding, and preparing surfaces for painting.
  • Clean bathrooms and common areas, including wiping surfaces, restocking supplies, and maintaining overall cleanliness.
  • Sweep floors in office, common, and shop areas to keep spaces tidy and free of debris.
  • Pick up trash in the parking lot and exterior areas to maintain a neat and welcoming environment.
  • Rearrange office furniture and equipment to support changing workspace needs and layouts.
  • Replace light bulbs and perform basic lighting maintenance to ensure adequate illumination throughout the facility.
  • Assist with basic plumbing tasks such as snaking drains or toilets when needed to resolve minor clogs.
  • Support general facilities maintenance and housekeeping tasks as assigned to maintain a safe and orderly workplace.
  • Take on odd projects and miscellaneous tasks across the facility to help maintain full-time hours and continuous productivity.
  • Communicate courteously with staff and visitors while performing duties, providing helpful and professional customer service when interacting with others.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with general facilities maintenance or handyman-style work.
  • Proficiency using common hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, and similar tools for disassembly and basic repairs.
  • Ability to perform painting tasks, including surface preparation and clean application of paint.
  • Experience with minor drywall and sheetrock repairs, including patching and finishing.
  • Housekeeping and cleaning skills, including restroom and common area cleaning, sweeping, and trash removal.
  • Comfort working in a janitorial or facilities support capacity, handling a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Basic repair skills and the ability to troubleshoot simple facility issues under guidance.
  • Willingness to perform physically active work, including lifting, moving furniture, and standing or walking for extended periods.
  • Reliable work habits and commitment to maintaining a full-time schedule.
  • Customer service skills to interact politely and professionally with employees and visitors while working in shared spaces.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Any exposure to mechanical systems is a plus and may allow for a broader range of tasks.
  • Any exposure to electrical systems is a plus; formal licensing is not required.
  • Any exposure to plumbing work is beneficial and can expand the scope of maintenance responsibilities.
  • Any exposure to HVAC systems is a plus and may enable additional support for facility operations.
  • No professional licenses are required for this role; willingness to learn and take on new tasks is highly valued.
  • Adaptability to take on varied projects across the facility as needs arise.
  • Interest in developing new technical skills and potentially growing into other roles within the organization over time.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift role, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule. Work takes place in office spaces, common areas, restrooms, and surrounding exterior areas such as the parking lot. The environment involves active, hands-on tasks including dismantling office partitions, moving furniture, painting, cleaning, and performing light repairs. You regularly use basic hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers, as well as standard cleaning supplies and equipment. The setting combines office and light industrial elements, and you should be prepared for physical work, including standing, walking, lifting, and working with tools in a variety of indoor and occasional outdoor conditions. Attire should be practical and appropriate for maintenance and cleaning work, allowing you to move comfortably and safely while performing your duties.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Enfield, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
