Job Description
Systems Engineer -- Aegis BMD
- New Jersey/Mount Laurel (near Philadelphia (easy commute))
- Full-time | On-site | Active or Recent Secret Clearance Required | Up to $150K
You Know What Aegis Is. Good. Let's Skip the Intro.
If you've spent years doing actual systems engineering -- requirements, V&V, integration, test -- and you're starting to wonder whether there's a team out there that would actually know your name and invest authentically in knowing and valuing your work and you as a person and team member, keep reading.
This one is a little different.
What This Actually Is
We're Nerd Up. We've been making unusually good matches between smart engineers and teams that deserve them for over 25 years.
We're hiring a handful of senior systems engineers to join a long-tenured team embedded at a major defense prime's facility in Moorestown, NJ, supporting Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense programs. The kind of work that matters. The kind of program that doesn't end.
These are not management roles. Not "lead" roles. Not roles where you spend your week in strategy offsites and your Friday writing status reports about status reports.
These are roles for engineers who still like engineering.
The Company Behind the Role
Our client is a specialized engineering firm that has been partnered with this customer since 2007 and specifically supporting the Aegis Combat System since 2015.
In 18 years, in tumultuous economies, they've also not had a layoff due to lost work, across all their work locations on the East Coast. That's not a line. That's a data point.
Their Mount Lauren team has some of the lowest turnover in the company -- not because people can't leave, but because most of them don't want to. There's something to be said for a place that has earned that.
What You'll Do
Depending on your team assignment, your day-to-day will include some combination of:
- Requirements development, decomposition, tracking, and validation
- Verification and validation (V&V)
- Systems integration and test support
- ET&T activities
- Data analysis and problem investigation
- Working alongside senior technical leads on mission-critical problems
This is not a training environment. If you're the kind of engineer who reads the system, figures out what needs doing, and does it, you'll feel right at home.
What We're Looking For
Must-haves:
- 5 to 10+ years of systems engineering experience
- DOORS (Jazz DOORS Next Gen strongly preferred)
- Requirements development and decomposition experience
- Verification and validation experience
- Systems integration and test background
- Ability to read and write C++ (Python scripting increasingly valuable here too)
- Active DoD Secret clearance
- BS in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
Strong differentiators:
- Aegis, BMD, naval combat systems, or missile defense experience
- MATLAB (nice to have, not required)
- Cameo / MBSE exposure
- Experience with automated test, containers, or Kubernetes
What This Is Not
Not a management role. Not a team lead role. Not a place where your technical instincts go to gather dust.
If your most recent title is Director, Engineering Manager, or Program Lead and that's genuinely where your heart is, this probably isn't your next move.
If you held those titles and honestly miss requirements, integration, and test over PowerPoint and headcount? Let's talk.
The Practical Stuff
- Salary: Up to $150K based on experience
- Medical, dental, vision, 401(k) Safe Harbor, PTO, STD/LTD, life insurance, tuition assistance
- Schedule options: Flex 4/10, Flex 9/80 with alternating Fridays off, or straight 5/8
- On-site in Moorestown, NJ
