Narrative Job Summary:
A Systems Engineer II is an intermediate-level position responsible for the design, implementation, and management of IT systems infrastructure. This position also requires emphasis on cybersecurity scanning and remediation.
Responsibilities & Tasks:
Ability to create and follow IT related policies and procedures.
- Root Cause analysis of baseline system defects, hardware, and software.
- Administer Windows Active Directory, Group Policies, and Certificate Services.
- Manage network storage devices (SAN / NAS)
- Troubleshoot issues dealing with systems/network and subsystems, identify/analyze root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Perform preventive maintenance actions including system back-ups, error log reviews, and database size integrity checks.
- Develop and enforce security policies and standards.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
- Perform security assessments and risk assessments.
- Provide advanced security training to employees.
- Perform other duties and assist with special projects and installments as assigned.
Expected core competencies:
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Server and PC Operating Systems
- Proficient with Linux Operating System
- Design, implement, and maintain physical and virtual IT infrastructure including servers, storage, networking, and security devices
- Ability to create and utilize administrative scripts
- Develop and implement cybersecurity policies, procedures, and guidelines to mitigate risks and vulnerabilities
- Implement STIGS (Security Technical Implementation Guides) for operating systems, applications, and devices to enhance cybersecurity posture.
- Conduct regular vulnerability scans using Nessus and remediate identified issues promptly
- Demonstrate strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products such as Teams, Project, Power Point, Excel and Outlook.
- Use technical information in operation and maintenance activities
- Stay current with the latest security trends, threats, and best practices and incorporate them into an IT infrastructure.
- Ability to mentor less knowledgeable team members
Qualifications:
- Bachelors in related field
- Must have at least five years of combined experience in systems administration and cybersecurity.
- Required certifications:
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 certification
- Additional certifications a plus: A+, Network+, MCP, MCSA, CCNA, SSCP, CISA
- Related military training and/or job experience is a plus
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Work locations will be extremely remote, along the southern border in areas surrounding Pharr, McAllen, and Rio Grande City, TX
