Job Summary

The Project Designer is responsible for leading multiple design projects and people/teams from concept to completion. They lead, motivate, manage, and coach the team to ensure that the design vision comes to life within Bluebell's aesthetic parameters, customer requirements, and time and budget specifications. The Project Designer defines project requirements, schedules, and budgets on all aspects of the project. They execute or lead/oversee every step in the process to achieve project goals and are responsible for ensuring the project is successfully completed on time and on budget. They anticipate and overcome obstacles and challenges. They ensure the project is profitable per the firm's profit guidelines and goals.

Essential Job Functions & Key Tasks


1. Lead, execute, and manage profitable design projects but not limitied to:

  • Communicate/collaborate with Creative Director on job concept and project goals
  • Conduct on-site client visits to assess the space-taking measurements, identifying plumbing locations, evaluating structural elements such as construction beams, and determining what is architecturally possible within the client's vision
  • Develop timeline in coordination with architects and contractors and determine target dates for deliverables; work with contractors to create a realistic schedule to ensure all parties share the same expectations
  • Prepare comprehensive client presentations featuring multiple design concepts and tiered budget scenarios
  • Coordinate with accounting for invoicing and ensure financial accuracy throughout the project lifecycle
  • Update client budgets and specifications throughout the project
  • Ensure materials and selections are within profit margin specifications
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Identify potential issues that may delay the project and take proactive steps to resolve them
  • Address issues that arise promptly and take initiative and ownership to create a solution
  • Ensure projects are on target, high quality, on time, and profitable

2. Manage design process from start to finish, including but not limited to:

  • Create design concepts in collaboration with the Creative Director
  • Specify cabinetry, countertops, appliances, accessories, etc. required for each project
  • Prepare accurate and professional proposals for approval
  • Ensure materials and selections are within profit margin specifications
  • Lead team to execute projects in a positive, professional, profitable manner
  • Lead, coach, train, and mentor design team in the successful execution of tasks
  • Oversee design work to ensure design intent is met and the Bluebell brand is maintained
  • Monitor ongoing progress of design team work and provide performance feedback and coaching; ensure team meets schedule and project specifications
  • Provide clear, proactive, direct, frequent communication and interface with team
  • Maintain open communication with interior designers, architects, and construction professionals throughout each project
  • Establish positive, professional client, contractor, and vendor relations
  • Lead client meetings and present content in a positive, professional manner
  • Provide clear, proactive, direct, frequent communication and interface with vendors, contractors, and clients
  • Provide weekly status updates
  • Inform Creative Director, Technical Designer, clients, and vendors of changes
  • Analyze and resolve complex technical, design, and installation issues
  • Trouble shoot and address problems in a pro-active, professional manner
  • Travel to client homes, job sites, and off-site selection showrooms as needed to support project execution

The design team feels supported, empowered, and receives positive and constructive feedback and coaching throughout the project. Client Satisfaction: Clients are highly satisfied with the design and service provided and post extraordinary Google reviews. Clients engage in additional projects and refer others to use your services.


Project Management: Projects are on time and executed in an efficient, effective, professional manner. Issues are anticipated and solved before they became problematic. Problems are addressed immediately with skill and diplomacy. There are regular cross-functional check-ins with the technical service team to ensure projects are on track.


Profitable: Projects are profitable per Bluebell's profit guidelines and goals. Furnishings and materials are selected with quality, client needs, brand, aesthetics, and profit margin considered.

Innovation/Process Improvement: Brings new ideas, methods, and clients to the team.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in interior design, kitchen/cabinetry design, or residential remodeling
  • Strong knowledge of cabinetry construction, materials, countertops, and appliance specifications
  • Proven experience managing multiple design projects simultaneously, from concept through installation
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a natural ability to connect with people
  • Sharp attention to detail and organizational skills, particularly with data and specifications
  • Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills
