Purpose of Role:
Reporting directly to the Mine Technology Networks & Infrastructure Supervisor, the OT Systems Technician focuses on maintaining critical system connectivity and adhering to established safety standards. The OT Systems Technician supports the industrial network and wireless infrastructure to ensure autonomous machinery and heavy equipment remain connected and operational across active mining pits and remote field locations.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Wireless Infrastructure: Deploy and maintain Mesh (e.g., Rajant), Private LTE/5G, and Wi-Fi networks to ensure 100% coverage for autonomous machinery and remote telemetry.
- Radio Communications: Program, calibrate, install and repair digital mobile radio (DMR), repeaters, and handheld units.
- IT related items: Assist in deploying printers troubleshooting issue and workstations as needed
- Fleet Integration: Install and troubleshoot onboard hardware including GNSS (GPS) antennas, ruggedized routers (Cisco IE), and data loggers on heavy earthmoving equipment (Trucks, Dozers, Drills).
- Mobile Asset Management: Manage the positioning, deployment, and power systems (Solar/Battery) of mobile communication trailers/skids to adapt to changing pit topography.
- Industrial Networking: Terminate coax, ethernet cables and installation of cable.
- Emergency Systems: Maintain pit-wide emergency siren systems and lightning detection hardware.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
- 0–2 years of experience in a field technical role, field networking, telecommunications, or electronics installation.
- Experience demonstrating a commitment to "Zero Harm" and the ability to strictly follow comprehensive safety procedures.
- Experience working under Permit to Work systems or similar structured industrial safety environments.
Technical Knowledge
- RF Fundamentals: Strong understanding of antenna theory, VSWR testing, and line-of-sight (LOS) propagation.
- Networking: Proficiency in IP addressing, VLANs, and troubleshooting Layer 2/3 connectivity.
- FMS Knowledge: Experience with Fleet Management Systems (e.g., Cat MineStar,).
- Hardware: Ability to work with ruggedized brands like Cisco, Nokia, Rajant, or Cambium.
- Solar/DC Power: Basic understanding of 12V/24V/48V DC power systems and solar controllers used in remote nodes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Operational Technology (OT), Information Technology (IT), or a related technical field preferred.
- Previous Mine Experience or exposure to heavy industrial/construction environments.
- AHS Knowledge: Previous Cat Command and AOZ experience is preferred.

The work environment will necessitate work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions such as hot and/or dry conditions. Work will be conducted in locations where noise, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration may exist.
