Job Description

Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Manage and monitor production Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • \n

  • Improve database performance by working with indexes, queries, statistics, and connections.
  • \n

  • Manage backups, restores, replication, and high availability.
  • \n

  • Test backup and recovery processes to make sure databases can be restored when needed.
  • \n

  • Help move databases to AWS, including Amazon RDS for SQL Server and/or Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • \n

  • Help convert databases, migrate data, test changes, and support production cutovers.
  • \n

  • Convert T-SQL, stored procedures, and triggers to PostgreSQL when needed.
  • \n

  • Work with PostgreSQL databases, including tuning, replication, and extensions.
  • \n

  • Help protect sensitive data through encryption, access controls, key management, and auditing.
  • \n

  • Review database changes and SQL queries from engineering teams.
  • \n

  • Help engineers build databases that are reliable and perform well.
  • \n

  • Create scripts and automation for database setup, migrations, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • \n

  • Support PCI-DSS and SOC 2 compliance requirements.
  • \n

  • Participate in on-call support and help resolve database issues.
  • \n

Requirements

\n

    \n
  • 4+ years of database engineering or DBA experience.
  • \n

  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment.
  • \n

  • Experience with SQL Server performance tuning, Always On or similar HA/DR, backups, recovery, and security.
  • \n

  • Strong knowledge of SQL, T-SQL, and PL/pgSQL.
  • \n

  • Experience moving databases between platforms or into the cloud.
  • \n

  • Experience with PowerShell, Python, or Bash scripting.
  • \n

\n

Qualifications

\n

    \n
  • Strong understanding of data security and data accuracy.
  • \n

  • Able to explain database issues and recommendations clearly.
  • \n

  • Good communication and documentation skills.
  • \n

  • Comfortable using data to make decisions.
  • \n

  • Four-year technical degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • \n

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. and able to pass a background check.
  • \n

Preferred

\n

    \n
  • Experience with Amazon RDS, Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS DMS, or Babelfish.
  • \n

  • Experience with change data capture (CDC) and data pipelines.
  • \n

  • Experience with multi-tenant databases and tenant data separation.
  • \n

  • Experience in financial services or other regulated industries.
  • \n

  • Knowledge of PCI-DSS or SOC 2.
  • \n

  • Experience with Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • \n

  • Experience with Databricks or data warehouse platforms.
  • \n
