Job Description
Job DescriptionJob Title: Electronics Verification Engineer
Job Description
The Electronics Verification Engineer validates and qualifies electronic hardware from early prototypes through high-volume production. This lab-focused role combines structured test execution with hands-on debug and root-cause analysis to ensure that boards and systems meet performance, reliability, and quality requirements. You will own board bring-up, execute comprehensive validation plans, perform detailed failure analysis, and clearly document and communicate test results while supporting key new product introduction (NPI) milestones.
Responsibilities
- Validate and qualify electronic hardware from prototype through production, ensuring compliance with performance, reliability, and quality requirements.
- Perform hands-on board bring-up, including power-on, basic functionality checks, and system-level integration testing.
- Execute detailed validation plans and test matrices (including DVP&R) against design requirements and specifications, defining and applying clear pass/fail criteria.
- Use lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, function generators, power supplies, electronic loads, and LCR meters to perform bench testing and measurements.
- Troubleshoot circuit-level issues and perform failure analysis to identify root causes and propose corrective actions.
- Perform PCB rework, including soldering and de-soldering fine-pitch components, to support debug, design updates, and hardware modifications.
- Capture, organize, and analyze test data, using manual and automated methods to generate clear insights and conclusions.
- Write, maintain, and improve test procedures, test cases, and validation documentation to support repeatable and scalable testing.
- Document test results in clear lab reports and test summaries, highlighting key findings, issues, and recommendations.
- Track issues through their lifecycle, collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive timely resolution and design improvements.
- Support NPI phases such as EVT, DVT, and PVT by planning and executing validation activities aligned with program milestones.
- Apply best practices in testing and verification to ensure robust coverage and alignment with product development and release criteria.
- Leverage Python-based scripts and tools, where applicable, to automate tests, process data, and generate plots or reports.
- Utilize LLM-based tools to expedite documentation, data analysis, and test development workflows where appropriate.
- Contribute to fixture design and design-for-test concepts to improve test efficiency, coverage, and manufacturability.
- Participate in or support reliability and environmental testing, including thermal, vibration/shock, humidity, and ESD, and interpret the results for design feedback.
- Present test results, data trends, and reliability findings to stakeholders in a clear and structured manner.
- Apply knowledge of product development cycles and shipping products to consumers to align verification activities with real-world use cases and requirements.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in electronics test, validation, or hardware quality engineering (or equivalent).
- Strong fundamentals in analog and digital circuits, including the ability to read schematics, review PCB layouts, and perform board bring-up.
- Hands-on troubleshooting and failure analysis skills at the board and circuit level.
- Proficiency in PCB rework, including soldering and de-soldering fine-pitch components.
- Proficient use of lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), function generators, power supplies, electronic loads, and LCR meters.
- Experience creating and executing validation plans and test matrices (including DVP&R), with the ability to define and apply clear pass/fail criteria.
- Experience designing and executing manual and/or automated tests for electronic hardware.
- Strong skills in test data capture, organization, and analysis to derive meaningful conclusions.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce lab reports, test summaries, and issue tracking documentation.
- Familiarity with reliability tests and product development cycles, including the path from prototype to shipping products for consumers.
- Knowledge of best practices in testing and verification for electronic hardware.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and support NPI milestones.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with NPI phases such as EVT, DVT, and PVT, including planning and executing validation activities at each stage.
- Exposure to fixture design and design-for-test (DFT) concepts to improve test coverage and efficiency.
- Experience with Python-based test automation, data analysis, and plotting.
- Familiarity with PCB schematic and layout tools such as Altium, Cadence, KiCad, or Eagle.
- Experience using LLM-based tools to expedite processes such as documentation, test development, or data analysis.
- Exposure to reliability and environmental testing, including thermal, vibration/shock, humidity, and ESD.
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis, including strong presentation of results.
- Experience shipping products to consumers and understanding the associated validation and quality expectations.
Work Environment
This role is heavily lab-based and hands-on, with a strong focus on bench work and electronic hardware testing. You will work with a wide range of lab instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, function generators, power supplies, electronic loads, and LCR meters, as well as protocol and debug tools as needed. The environment emphasizes structured validation, best practices in testing and verification, and close collaboration with design, reliability, and manufacturing teams throughout the product development cycle. You will support key NPI phases such as EVT, DVT, and PVT, working with prototypes and pre-production hardware in a setting that values careful documentation, data-driven decisions, and continuous improvement of test methods and fixtures.
