Job Summary
We are seeking an Entry-Level Engineering Technologist to support power distribution design projects for utility and energy clients. This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their technical career who is interested in utility infrastructure, distribution design, and engineering support.
In this role, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and designers to assist with overhead and underground distribution projects, collect field data, prepare design documentation, and develop the technical skills needed for a successful career in the utility industry.
Responsibilities
Assist with the preparation of overhead and underground power distribution design packages
Support field data collection, site visits, measurements, and as-built documentation
Utilize distribution design software such as Katapult, Distribution Design Studio (DDS), or similar tools
Interpret utility standards, design guidelines, and basic NESC requirements
Prepare material lists, staking sheets, and construction documentation
Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project managers to support project execution
Maintain accurate project records, notes, field photos, and documentation
Assist with permitting activities, easement reviews, and right-of-way documentation
Participate in training and mentorship programs to develop technical and industry knowledge
Qualifications
One of the following is required:
Associate's degree in Design, CAD, GIS, Drafting, or a related technical discipline
OR
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a similar non-engineering field
Required Skills
Interest in power distribution, utilities, infrastructure, or engineering design
Strong attention to detail and willingness to perform field work as needed
Ability to learn and use utility design software and technical applications
Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills
Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CAD, GIS, or drafting software
Internship, co-op, or coursework related to utilities, construction, engineering technology, or infrastructure
Familiarity with utility standards and practices (CenterPoint, Entergy, AEP, Oncor, etc.)
Ability to read maps, drawings, survey information, and construction plans
