Job Description

This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial filling and packaging machinery. You will perform both electrical and mechanical maintenance, support preventive maintenance programs, and help ensure reliable operation of production equipment in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on industrial machinery, including filling and packaging equipment such as Jones, Mamata, and Matrix machines.
• Diagnose and repair issues involving hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, and related mechanical components to minimize downtime.
• Use electrical troubleshooting techniques to work safely with 480V systems, including swapping motors and working with variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Conduct preventive maintenance on production equipment to improve reliability and extend equipment life.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to identify and resolve equipment issues.
• Use a multimeter and other diagnostic tools to test, verify, and repair electrical circuits and components.
• Assist with PLC troubleshooting and support basic PLC-related maintenance tasks; escalate complex issues as needed.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately and in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with other mechanics and production staff to identify recurring issues and recommend improvements.
• Participate in training by shadowing current mechanics on 1st shift for the initial training period, then transition to 2nd shift.
• Support overtime needs and rotating Saturday work as required by business demand.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as an industrial maintenance technician or mechanic in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, including experience with both mechanical and electrical systems.
• Hands-on experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial motors.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical schematics.
• Proficiency using a multimeter for electrical testing and diagnostics.
• Experience working with 480V electrical systems, including safely swapping motors.
• Familiarity with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and their basic setup or troubleshooting.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair filling and packaging machinery or similar production equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• PLC troubleshooting experience or exposure to PLC-controlled equipment.
• Experience with specific packaging equipment brands such as Jones, Mamata, and Matrix.
• Experience in food or packaging manufacturing environments is a plus but not required.
• Comfort working in an industrial setting with a mix of mechanical and electrical responsibilities.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently after training.
• Willingness to participate in a short training period on 1st shift, shadowing experienced mechanics.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vernon Hills, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
