Job DescriptionDescription:

Information Systems Specialists role is the primary point of contact for IT and related system services for city staff. The position provides general helpdesk level IT support, runs cable, assists employees with: e-mail services, office software, printers, wireless connectivity, and other similar issues. Assists with software and hardware in all departments and works with vendors related to their functions.


This is a Civil Service/ AFSCME union position.


Essential Functions:

· Provides technical support related to software, hardware, databases, web resources, networks, and information technology systems.

· Diagnoses and troubleshoots hardware and software problems.

· Conducts root cause analysis on common problems with users and presents permanent solutions.

· Manages City phones and all physical access needs and security

· Assist with emergency operations, special projects, and training responsibilities as needed.

· Provides help desk support to city staff; establishes and maintains user and e-mail accounts on the network; maintains and troubleshoots the Local Area Network including maintenance of user accounts, security, virus protection, and data integrity.

· Installs and upgrades system software and ensures daily backup on all workstations and servers.

· Liaise with software/hardware vendors for orders, renewals.

· Input and update IT asset data, maintain accurate records of purchases and installations, manage digital files and databases.

· Develop and manage IT materials.

· Assist in City communications such as website, newsletters and social media.

· Oversee cybersecurity initiatives and needs.

· Provides back up coverage of answering City main phone line and directing appropriately.

· Provides regular updates, status, and completion information to department leaders.

· Assists as needed in preparing documents for imaging, scans documents, verifies quality of scans, and electronically files digital documentation.

· Invoice / Bill management for department

· Assist in other projects assigned ( i.e. City Speed electronic sign installation and management)

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· High school diploma or GED.

· Civil Service Exam certification.

· Must possess a valid State driver’s license. Must remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.

· Experience in information systems

· An equivalent combination of education and experience that encompasses the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s Degree in MIS or Computer Science in a related field.

· Combination of IT, network, cybersecurity certifications demonstrating competency in the field.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

· Microsoft Office products.

· Networking, general help desk knowledge, and computer security
