Job Title: Advanced Quality Technician - 2nd Shift 3pm-1am

Job Description

The Advanced Quality Technician serves as the primary quality resource for the assigned shift, providing independent quality decision-making support for production operations. This role supports manufacturing through advanced inspection activities, quality investigations, process audits, containment actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Advanced Quality Technician works independently within established guidelines, escalates significant quality concerns to Quality Management, Engineering, and Operations, and provides guidance to Quality Technicians and production personnel to help achieve the organization’s quality and operational objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary quality point of contact for the assigned shift and provide independent quality decision-making support to production operations.
  • Perform advanced inspection activities on plastic injection molded parts, including dimensional and visual inspections, to ensure products meet specifications and customer requirements.
  • Spend approximately half of the workday on the production floor inspecting parts, troubleshooting quality issues, and supporting production teams.
  • Identify, investigate, and troubleshoot quality issues in real time, working closely with production personnel to contain nonconforming product and prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct process audits and containment activities to verify compliance with established procedures, work instructions, and quality standards.
  • Support and participate in root cause analysis activities to determine underlying causes of quality issues and develop effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations on corrective actions, continuous improvement projects, and quality-related initiatives to enhance processes and product quality.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and other inspection tools to perform accurate measurements and inspections.
  • Apply knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and metrology principles to interpret drawings, specifications, and measurement results.
  • Support and maintain quality documentation and records related to inspections, audits, investigations, and corrective actions in alignment with ISO manufacturing requirements.
  • Assist with and support PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning), PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), and other core quality tools as needed.
  • Communicate significant quality concerns, trends, and findings to Quality Management, Engineering, and Operations in a clear and timely manner.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and support to Quality Technicians and production personnel regarding quality standards, inspection methods, and best practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve processes, reduce defects, and enhance overall product quality.
  • Follow established quality procedures, work instructions, and safety guidelines while maintaining a strong focus on product and process integrity.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of quality experience in an ISO certified manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 2 years of plastics injection molding experience.
  • Hands-on experience with injection molding processes and related quality requirements.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and other inspection tools.
  • Working knowledge of ISO manufacturing standards and practices.
  • Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and metrology principles.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis and supporting corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound quality decisions within established guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with Quality Management, Engineering, Operations, Quality Technicians, and production personnel.
  • Ability to support and perform process audits, containment activities, and quality investigations.
  • Comfort working on the production floor for extended periods to inspect parts and troubleshoot quality issues.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with ERP systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning).
  • Experience with PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma methodologies and tools.
  • ASQ (American Society for Quality) certification is a plus.
  • Experience participating in or leading continuous improvement projects.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in Engineering and Operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high quality standards.

Work Environment

This role operates primarily in a manufacturing environment with a focus on plastics injection molding operations. The position is scheduled on second shift, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. The Advanced Quality Technician spends approximately half of the workday on the production floor inspecting parts, troubleshooting quality issues, and supporting production personnel. The other half of the time is spent working with Engineering and Operations on root cause investigations, process audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement projects. The environment involves regular use of precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, and other inspection tools. Work is performed in an ISO certified manufacturing facility that emphasizes adherence to documented processes, quality standards, and safety practices. The role requires comfort working around production machinery, following established safety procedures, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams during the shift.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Racine, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
