The Java Software Developer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, integrating, debugging, and maintaining enterprise software applications. The role focuses on Java-based application development, relational databases, web technologies, CI/CD, secure coding, and Agile software development practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle using Agile methodologies.
- Gather, analyze, and translate user requirements into software solutions.
- Design, develop, test, integrate, and maintain Java-based applications.
- Develop MVC applications using Java and enterprise Java technologies.
- Develop applications that interact with relational databases using JPA, Hibernate, and JPQL.
- Create, modify, and manage relational database data using SQL.
- Perform software debugging, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Develop and maintain web application components using Java, JSP, Servlets, XML, and JavaScript.
- Use Git and build tools such as Maven, Ant, or Gradle.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and build servers such as Jenkins.
- Participate in code reviews, software testing, and technical documentation.
- Support system integration, performance evaluation, and capacity planning.
- Apply secure coding practices and cybersecurity requirements throughout development.
- Collaborate with developers, system support teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Support automated testing and software quality activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional/educational experience.
- 10+ years of relevant software development experience.
- Active CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8140-compliant certification.
- Strong Java object-oriented programming experience.
- Experience developing MVC applications using Java.
- Experience with JPA, Hibernate, and JPQL.
- Strong relational database and SQL experience.
- Experience with Agile software development methodologies.
- Proficiency with Git and Maven, Ant, or Gradle.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines or build servers such as Jenkins.
- Experience with J2EE, JSP, Servlets, EJB, XML, and enterprise application servers.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices and DoD cybersecurity requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with GWT or similar Java-based client-side frameworks.
- Experience with HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, React, or Angular.
- Experience debugging Java and JavaScript applications.
- Experience with reporting tools such as Jaspersoft, Crystal Reports, or JReports.
- Experience with JUnit, JaCoCo, Fortify, and software test automation.
- Experience with additional programming languages such as Python, PHP, or C.
