Job Description

The position of Systems Engineer, Level 2 is critical to all departments, providing support for IT tools that enable day to day operations such as computers, printers, scanners, email, as well as maintaining IT systems.

Here’s what you can expect in the way of specific job responsibilities as well as time allocation estimates:

End User Support/Systems Administration (70%)

  • Assist local and remote end users with issues and requests related to hardware and software solutions managed by the internal IT team, and in special cases other software or hardware support.
  • Manage helpdesk system, tickets and requests using the appropriate incident management system and processes. Manage triage of tickets and establish priority.
  • Manage end user IT assets, which includes configuring, deploying, maintaining, tracking and evaluating end of life on PCs, printers, copiers, phones, and mobile devices
  • Maintain IT systems; including servers, software, network, and firewall with a focus on business value, security, and availability
  • Appropriately manage devices lifecycle by developing and executing device refresh strategy and plan -e.g. computers, printers, etc-
  • Develop, document, and maintain procedures and system documentation
  • Remain connected and up-to-date on new technology releases (e.g. new versions of Windows), and new technical innovations
  • Help drive IT team culture of customer focus, trusted systems, trusted team and continuous improvement

IT Administration and Support (20%)

  • Proactively continue to develop technical skills that will allow for career growth and the ability to assist with more advanced job responsibilities over time such as network/infrastructure support
  • Develop and improve IT processes, including writing documentation
  • Attend and participate in IT and company meetings and events
  • Proactively identify needs, evaluate and implement technology solutions to solve business problems

Projects (10%)

  • Collaborate with and/or manage vendors as needed
  • Provide input on company-wide IT policies (e.g. mobile device and acceptable use, change control, access controls); Provide input on strategic IT decisions (systems roadmaps, cloud migration strategy, etc)
  • Work on projects as assigned, ensuring that tasks are completed in a timely manner
  • Accurately and effectively configure, test, and deploy systems and services
  • Proactively identify needs, evaluate and implement technology solutions to assist with the project

To be successful in this role, you need to have the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Associate Degree preferred; or extensive demonstrated relevant work experience with some completed college courses and/or certifications
  • A+, Network+, Security+, and/or MCSA certifications, or similar, are a plus
  • 3 to 7 years of IT systems and infrastructure experience required
  • Experience deploying and managing cloud-based solutions: email (Office365), DNS, Azure AD
  • Experience with networking technology including firewall, TCP/IP, VPN, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, FTP/SFTP, wireless
  • Experience with security technology and best practices including antivirus, email and web filtering, password management, mobile device management, auditing and permissions, two factor authentication, SSO
  • Experience with server and storage technology including server hardware, VMware, SAN, Windows, SharePoint
  • Experience with end user technology including Windows, laptop and desktop hardware, Apple and other mobile devices
  • Experience with specific tools a plus: Mimecast, Veeam, TrendMicro, 8x8 phone system
  • Strong technical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
  • Sincere, positive, and service minded attitude
  • Desire and ability to quickly learn new things; ability to research issues and find solutions
  • Capable of working independently, as well as within a team environment, with minimal instruction; ability to be a team player and is passionate about helping everyone on the team to be at their best
  • Great verbal and written communication skills
  • Respect for confidentiality practices
