Job Description

The Maintenance Technician performs preventive and corrective maintenance on manufacturing and facility equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This role focuses on troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in a fast-paced production environment, while adhering to strict safety and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on manufacturing and facility equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to restore equipment to proper operating condition.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems from 24V to 480VAC, including work with PLCs and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to identify issues and execute accurate repairs.
  • Install, maintain, and modify production, automation, and facility equipment, including motors, drives, wiring, HVAC, compressed air, and dust collection systems.
  • Fabricate and repair parts using hand tools, shop equipment, and welding equipment as needed to support maintenance activities.
  • Use a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to complete work orders and document repairs, parts usage, and maintenance history.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout (LOTO), and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with equipment operators, supervisors, and engineering teams to understand issues, coordinate repairs, and minimize production interruptions.
  • Perform additional maintenance-related duties as assigned to support overall facility operations.

Essential Skills

  • 2-year technical degree in a related field OR a minimum of 2 years of experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, VFDs, and AC/DC motors.
  • Proven ability to work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing 3-phase electrical systems from 24V to 480VAC.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Proficient use of hand tools, power tools, test equipment, and lift equipment.
  • MIG welding experience for fabrication and repair tasks.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office and a CMMS.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Machining experience is a plus for fabricating and modifying parts.
  • Experience with conveyor systems, material handling equipment, and dust collection systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation equipment and controls.
  • Prior experience using CMMS software to manage work orders and maintenance records.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a production environment.
  • Comfort working with shop equipment and fabrication tools for maintenance repair and fabrication tasks.

Work Environment

This position is based in a fast-paced manufacturing facility that handles food-grade materials and follows strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. Team members must wear all required GMP-related attire, which includes items such as hair nets and beard nets where applicable, and no visible jewelry is permitted while on the production floor. The role involves working with industrial equipment, including motors, drives, conveyors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, HVAC, compressed air systems, and dust collection systems, as well as using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, test instruments, and lift equipment. The typical schedule is 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on a 2-2-3 rotation, providing a consistent night-shift pattern. Initial training takes place on first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., to ensure thorough onboarding and familiarity with facility equipment and procedures.
