Job Description
This Maintenance Technician role supports production operations by troubleshooting, repairing, and improving highly automated food manufacturing and packaging equipment. You will split your time between mechanical and electrical work, resolving issues ranging from simple adjustments to complete machine tear-downs, with a strong focus on automated and PLC-controlled systems.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment in a food manufacturing environment.
- Troubleshoot and repair components such as photo-eyes, sensors, gears, motor boxes, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo drives, pumps, valves, and motors.
- Use HMI touch screens and Allen-Bradley PLC-controlled systems to identify and resolve equipment problems.
- Perform approximately 50% mechanical repairs and 50% electrical repairs on a daily basis.
- Conduct mechanical troubleshooting on conveyors and other moving equipment to minimize downtime.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting on control circuits, motors, drives, and related components.
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned breakdowns.
- Perform TIG and MIG welding on stainless steel and support custom fabrication work as needed.
- Work extensively on new and existing automated packaging and shrink-wrapping equipment, with a strong focus on electrical and control issues.
- Read and interpret mechanical and electrical prints, diagrams, and schematics to guide repair and installation work.
- Use personal tools and shop equipment safely and effectively to complete maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate with production operators to understand machine issues, many of which arise from operator error, and implement effective solutions.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying root causes of recurring problems and recommending corrective actions.
- Follow all safety and food manufacturing requirements, including proper use of PPE and adherence to facility procedures.
Essential Skills
- 3–5 years of combined electrical and mechanical troubleshooting experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills, including experience with conveyors and moving equipment.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including work on motors, drives, sensors, and control components.
- Hands-on experience working with hydraulic components.
- Hands-on experience working with pneumatic components.
- Experience with conveyor maintenance and repair.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical prints and schematics.
- Proficiency with variable frequency drives (VFDs), including setup, adjustment, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with sensors and photo-eyes in an automated environment.
- Ability to use HMI touch screens for machine operation and troubleshooting.
- Capability to perform both mechanical and electrical repairs with minimal supervision.
- Ownership and use of personal tools required to perform maintenance tasks safely and effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with food or packaging equipment, particularly involving steam processes.
- Exposure to or experience with PLC troubleshooting, especially Allen-Bradley platforms.
- Experience with servo motors and servo drives.
- Background in fabrication work, including working with stainless steel.
- TIG and MIG welding experience on stainless steel components.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with automated packaging and shrink-wrapping equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting mindset and ability to work through complex mechanical and electrical problems.
- Effective communication skills to work with production and maintenance team members across multiple shifts.

Work Environment
This role is based in a food manufacturing facility with a dedicated production maintenance department of approximately 13 team members spread across three shifts. The production floor is climate controlled, while the maintenance crib is not air conditioned or climate controlled. The environment includes automated packaging and shrink-wrapping equipment, conveyors, pumps, valves, motors, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, photo-eyes, and Allen-Bradley PLC-controlled systems. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times, including hair and beard nets. Clothing cannot have plastic buttons that could fall into product, and jewelry is limited to a plain wedding band without stones. The facility has a distinct candy aroma due to the nature of the products. The position primarily works night shifts from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on a 2-on, 2-off, 3-on, 3-off rotating schedule. Training will take place on day shift for up to six months, following a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to allow collaboration with team members across all shifts.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.94 - $32.94/hr.
