Job Title: Maintenance Technician 3 (2nd or 3rd Shift)
Job Description
The Maintenance Technician 3 supports filtration and advanced materials operations by performing safe, effective maintenance in alignment with production requirements. This role focuses on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, modification, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment while ensuring full compliance with safety, OSHA, cGMP, and food safety standards. The technician works on 3rd shift and plays a key role in minimizing downtime, maintaining equipment reliability, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe, accident-free work environment by consistently following OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and Lockout/Tagout procedures, and by ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Actively participate in safety meetings and initiatives, and contribute to a strong safety culture across the facility.
- Perform preventive maintenance on plant equipment and assemblies to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
- Troubleshoot, repair, rebuild, modify, install, and remove electrical and mechanical equipment and assemblies as needed to support production.
- Respond urgently and effectively to equipment breakdowns, diagnosing issues quickly to restore operations in a timely manner.
- Communicate equipment issues, near misses, and unsafe conditions to leadership promptly and clearly.
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, food safety requirements, and calibration standards, and halt unsafe processes when necessary in the absence of operations personnel.
- Maintain clean, organized production and workshop areas by performing continuous housekeeping and 5S practices.
- Utilize and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic, and related documentation to identify and resolve equipment problems.
- Use electrical test equipment, including volt, ohm, and amp meters, to diagnose electrical issues safely and accurately.
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and concerns thoroughly and accurately in maintenance systems and logs.
- Coordinate maintenance activities and tasks with operations and other team members to minimize disruption to production schedules.
- Support the installation and startup of new equipment, including mechanical, electrical, and control components.
- Assist with troubleshooting and basic programming adjustments on PLCs and Variable Frequency Drives as required.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support the overall maintenance and production goals of the facility.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3–5 years of electrical and mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial equipment.
- Strong knowledge of 3-phase power and circuits.
- Knowledge of AC/DC motors and controls.
- Experience with PLCs and basic PLC troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder logic.
- Solid understanding of machine mechanics, including mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.
- Proficiency using electrical test equipment such as volt, ohm, and amp meters.
- Experience coordinating maintenance activities and tasks in a production environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted and 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, twist, and work in tight or awkward spaces for extended periods.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work 12-hour shifts as required.
- Good close vision, depth perception, and ability to maintain focus for detailed work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with industrial maintenance repair in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Experience with HVAC systems and motor maintenance.
- Experience in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and control issues on production equipment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively in high-pressure, time-sensitive situations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance.
- Comfort working with service tools, test equipment, and industrial machinery.
- Willingness to work 3rd shift and adapt to changing production needs and schedules.

Work Environment
This role is based in a manufacturing facility that supports filtration and advanced materials production. You will work primarily on 3rd shift, with standard shift options in the facility including 1st shift (7:50 a.m.–4:00 p.m.), 2nd shift (4:00 p.m.–12:00 a.m.), and 3rd shift (12:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m.). The environment includes exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, fumes, odors, and potential mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, or radiation hazards. You will regularly work around industrial equipment, motors, hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC systems, and control systems such as PLCs and Variable Frequency Drives. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and includes safety shoes, safety glasses, bump caps, gloves, hearing protection, respirators (as applicable), and task-specific protective gear. The role is physically demanding and involves lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing and pulling up to 250 lbs., standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, twisting, and working in tight or awkward spaces. You will perform repetitive tasks and may work 12-hour shifts as operational needs require, in a setting that emphasizes cleanliness, organization, and strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Roanoke, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.26 - $35.00/hr.
