Maintenance Technician IV / Maintenance Lead

Department: Maintenance / Production
Classification: Non-Exempt
Pay Type: Hourly
Pay Range: $32.21 - $44.70 per hour
Schedule: Full-Time | Day Shift | Monday-Friday

Position Summary

Hörmann is seeking an experienced, highly skilled Maintenance Technician IV / Maintenance Lead to support the reliability and performance of our manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for leading daily maintenance activities, coordinating equipment repairs and installations, and providing technical guidance to maintenance technicians while ensuring production equipment operates safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive industrial maintenance experience, advanced troubleshooting skills, and a strong background in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated manufacturing systems. This role serves as a technical leader, responding quickly to equipment failures, identifying root causes, and implementing long-term corrective actions that minimize downtime and maximize productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate day-to-day maintenance activities supporting production operations.
  • Perform advanced electrical and mechanical troubleshooting on manufacturing equipment.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain steel roll former machinery and associated production equipment.
  • Supervise and assist with the installation, startup, commissioning, and relocation of new equipment.
  • Provide technical coaching and mentorship to maintenance technicians, promoting effective troubleshooting methods and safe work practices.
  • Respond promptly to production line issues to restore equipment operation while minimizing downtime.
  • Develop and implement permanent corrective actions for recurring equipment failures.
  • Perform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance on production machinery and facility equipment.
  • Interpret and troubleshoot electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Troubleshoot and program PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Configure and troubleshoot:
    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
    • AC/DC motors
    • Motor controls
    • Electrical distribution systems
    • Control circuits
    • Industrial computer systems
  • Perform mechanical maintenance including:
    • Precision shaft alignment
    • Rigging and equipment installation
    • Bearing replacement
    • Belt tensioning, lacing, and tracking
    • Lubrication systems
    • Conveyor maintenance
    • Fastener torque verification
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager regarding spare parts inventory, maintenance supplies, and equipment purchases.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair industrial robotic systems and robotic work cells.
  • Perform robotic system diagnostics, calibration, recovery, and preventative maintenance.
  • Support the installation, programming, integration, and commissioning of robotic automation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot robotic controllers, servo systems, safety circuits, sensors, vision systems, and end-of-arm tooling (EOAT).
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production teams to improve robotic cell performance, reliability, cycle times, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Assist with robotic programming modifications, backups, and software updates as needed.
  • Maintain documentation related to robotic systems, preventive maintenance schedules, and equipment changes.

Required Qualifications

Any combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical school certificate, associate degree, or formal industrial maintenance training preferred.
  • Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with roll forming equipment is highly desirable.
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new maintenance software and systems.
  • Ability to safely operate heavy industrial equipment including:
    • Forklifts
    • Scissor lifts
    • Boom lifts

Technical Knowledge

Candidates should possess working knowledge of:

  • PLC troubleshooting and programming
  • Electrical systems and industrial controls
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • AC/DC motors and motor controls
  • Hydraulics
  • Pneumatics
  • Industrial automation
  • Preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  • Mechanical power transmission systems
  • Bearings, gearboxes, and conveyor systems
  • Electrical testing equipment
  • Building and facility maintenance
  • Plumbing and basic carpentry
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures
  • OSHA and industrial safety standards

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in industrial manufacturing environments for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier loads with appropriate lifting equipment.
  • Comfortable working at heights using lifts and elevated work platforms.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery while following all required safety procedures.
