Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Database Administrator to support and strengthen critical data environments for a financial services organization in McAllen, Texas. This role is responsible for maintaining reliable database operations across on-premises and cloud-based platforms while helping ensure performance, security, and recoverability. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server and related database technologies, along with a proactive approach to troubleshooting, optimization, and operational documentation.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee the setup, configuration, patching, and ongoing administration of Microsoft SQL Server and additional database technologies used across the organization.
• Manage database environments hosted on local infrastructure, Microsoft Azure, and hybrid platforms to maintain stable and efficient operations.
• Track system health, capacity, and availability metrics, and take corrective action to prevent disruptions or performance degradation.
• Improve database and application responsiveness through performance analysis, tuning, and optimization of workloads and storage usage.
• Create and maintain operational routines for backups, index upkeep, integrity validation, and other preventive maintenance activities.
• Investigate database incidents, resolve service interruptions, and support recovery efforts during outages or degraded performance events.
• Apply security controls by managing role-based access, privileged credentials, and database permissions in alignment with internal policies and regulatory expectations.
• Develop, document, and test backup and restoration procedures, and support application deployments, upgrades, and data migration efforts in coordination with vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, including procedures, diagrams, and runbooks, and participate in after-hours maintenance or incident response when needed.• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 3 years of database administration experience.
• At least 3 years of experience supporting on-premises and Azure-based database platforms.
• Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL Database, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle Database, and Microsoft Fabric environments.
• Strong understanding of database backup, recovery, security permissions, and auditing practices.
• Familiarity with high availability, disaster recovery planning, and performance tuning methods.
• Experience with scripting or automation tools such as PowerShell to streamline database administration tasks.
• Banking or financial services industry experience, Microsoft SQL Server certifications, and bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are preferred.
