A full-time, permanent Maintenance I - Second-shift position is available. The preferred skills for the position include general maintenance, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing. Background clearances are required. The starting rate is $26.89 per hour plus benefits.

Job Description:

Performs maintenance and repairs as needed to the electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, and makes general repairs to buildings and contents to provide a clean, healthy, safe, and attractive environment for learning and work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs general maintenance and repair tasks in a variety of areas as assigned by the Supervisor of Building & Grounds.
• Inspects buildings and equipment to ensure equipment, including installed items such as pumps, alarms, and sprinkler systems, is operating properly and buildings are maintained properly. Ensure that all applicable fire, safety, health, and environmental regulations are observed and exceeded.
• Performs work and is proficient in several areas of maintenance (e.g., plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry/concrete/tile, window glazing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC systems, roof repair, plastering/spackling, playground maintenance, furniture repair, small engine repair etc.). in order to provide a safe and functional environment.
• Perform assignments related to ensuring all schools and district sites are able to safely open and function when assigned. This includes working cooperatively with custodial employees during emergency operations.
• Responds to emergency situations, vandalism, power failures, storm damage, and water pipe failures.
• Assists custodial and maintenance workers in the maintenance of their respective facilities as required.
• If assigned, must carry and hold a swimming pool certification and maintain core credits for said certification from year to year at the district’s expense. Certified pool applicators must keep track of and order all pool chemicals needed for the day-to-day operation of the pool. Must document all pool water test results and chemical applications in logbooks. Must maintain all pool chemical and water levels of the pool.
• Performs all assigned work in a safe manner. This includes using all safety equipment when required and maintaining all tools in a safe operating condition. Responds to emergency situations and performs necessary repairs.
• Assists in all aspects of a project such as design, layout, material requirements, cost and labor estimates. Accurately orders and accounts for material and labor in relation to assignments. Maintains an adequate supply of parts and supplies usually used in repairs, and requests needed supplies through the established procedures of the district.
• Complies with district policy, local, state, and federal laws and procedures for the use, storage, and disposal of waste, cleaners, chemicals, and all other products and materials used in performing duties.
• Removes snow and ice by shoveling, plowing, and/or salting walks, driveways, parking areas, steps, etc.
• Performs preventive maintenance on boilers. Operates and maintains in a safe and operational condition all tools and equipment necessary to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
• Ensures the building is safe and secure. Performs regular inspections of equipment and systems, reporting any abnormalities and hazards immediately.
• Attends required meetings and trainings and serves on appropriated staff committees.
• Serves as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating a positive attitude, appropriate attire and grooming, and an effective work ethic.
• Maintains equipment, workspace, and job sites in a clean and orderly way. Unloads materials, supplies, and equipment when received. Display, a cooperative and pleasant attitude at all times, particularly when in the presence of staff, students, and community visitors.
• Display, ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school. Perform, any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by the Supervisor of Building & Grounds.
