Senior Systems Engineer

Garud is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer consultant to collaborate with our client. This role will be responsible for working with other engineers and subject matter experts to support the client’s program developing technologies and systems to protect the nation’s borders. A seasoned engineer with domain expertise is needed to support surface and subterranean surveillance and threat detection in support of the Border Wall System (BWS).

Responsibilities:

  • Generate engineering reports, risk analyses, and technical recommendations suitable for milestone reviews. Support ORD refinement, market research inputs, and acquisition documentation requiring engineering validation.
  • Support agile development software processes by aiding end users with creating user stories and prioritizing backlog.
  • Evaluate contractor submittals including RFI responses, proposals, white papers, technology demonstration plans, and contract deliverables.
  • Support the planning, execution, data collection, evaluation, and assessment of system acceptance tests, technical demonstrations, and other technology and/or systems evaluation efforts.
  • Support development of technology demonstrations from planning, execution, and evaluation.
  • Perform technology market research, trade studies, requirements analysis, other engineering investigations, and develop white papers and decision papers as required.
  • Coordinate and track project activities and status and provide status reporting and recommendations to the customer.
  • Assist the client develop engineering and business processes such as requirement solicitation of field users.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiar with DHS or DoD Acquisition Lifecycle Framework (ALF)
  • Familiar with DHS Systems Engineering Life Cycle (SELC) framework
  • Possess a deep technical understanding of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) systems, fiber installation, and signal fidelity.
  • Experience integrating detection systems with DHS/CBP’s command-and-control platforms. Develop and validate test plans to verify Key Performance Parameters (KPPs).
  • Possess the capability to analyze detection thresholds for false positives/false negatives. Provide recommendations to improve algorithm tuning in varied terrain.
  • Provide senior technical credibility for leadership engagements. Serve as an independent advisor to validate contractor performance, installation quality, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Experience in developing engineering plans, trade studies, CONOPS documents, and decision papers
  • Capability to analyze detection thresholds for false positives/false negatives. Provide recommendations to improve algorithm tuning in varied terrain to troubleshoot and validate software/firmware updates.
  • Ability to travel to the U.S. southern border region up to 40%.

Education and Experience:

  • 10+ years’ engineering experience in fiber optic sensing, DAS, or related defense/security technologies.
  • Prior support to DHS, DoD, or IC programs.
  • Ability to hold DHS/CBP clearance.
  • Effective communication skills to interface with government, vendors, and operators.
