Job DescriptionSalary: $17.95/hr.


POSITION SUMMARY

TheFacilities Maintenance Workerperforms a variety of projects associated with the cleanliness, care, and upkeep of the library facilities. Collaborates with all Library staff andassistsin creating a safe and welcoming environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs routine and periodic facility, grounds, parking lot, custodial and maintenance activities. Seasonalgroundskeepingincluding snow removal and other duties tomaintainthe safety and appearance of the facilities and grounds.
  • Performs routine building repairs like plumbing, carpentry, painting, heating/ventilation and air conditioning and masonry across three full-service library facilities.
  • Responsible for routine cleaning and care for facilities. Routinely inspects andcleansmeeting spaces, restrooms,common areasand grounds.
  • Performs minor work on ceilings,floor,carpet, and tiles.
  • Performs and documents assigned preventive maintenance and safety check inspections.
  • Performs security checks of facilities and grounds.
  • Investigates and prioritizes facilitiesrelatedcomplaints and work orders and recommends corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
  • Repairs a variety of equipment. Refers more complex repairs tosupervisorforappropriate action.
  • Performs various electrical repairs like bulb and ballast replacement, switches, outlets and new fixture installation, re-wiring existing electrical systems at both residential and commercial voltage.
  • Assists Lead Facilities Coordinator inmaintainingsupply and parts inventory.
  • Moves, assembles, and arranges furniture and equipment, including audio visual equipment perroomset-up specifications.
  • Receives incoming materials, supplies, and equipment and distributes to appropriatedepartment. Routes paperwork accurately andtimely.
  • Transportsbooks, materials, and supplies between facilitiesand tocustomers as needed using the library vehicle.
  • Upholds the highest standards of customer service with polite, helpful, and efficient interactions with vendors, customers, and staff.
  • Follows safety rules and provides aid/support in emergency situations. Keepsworkarea in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Uses power and non-power tools and equipment.
  • Uses personalcomputer, current software, and other common office equipment.
  • Attends professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties and specialprojects asassigned.

  • Ability to use relevant computer software programs such as Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Demonstratesexceptional customer service, providing qualityassistanceto vendors,customers,and staff.
  • Demonstrate strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills working effectively with diverse cultures, interpersonal styles, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Uses problem solving skills to assist in determining priorities and finding timely solutions to departmental or system-wide issues.
  • Service-oriented with the ability toestablishand maintain effective relationships with staff and the public.
  • Uses multiple tools to answer questions, uses common office equipment and relevant computer software for daily tasks,communication,andto maintainworkflow. Keeps current in relevant technology.
  • Successfully supports and/or collaborates on projects and programs with staff members.
  • Responsive to change anddemonstratesadaptability.
  • Maintains a positive approach while doing daily tasks and when faced with adversity.
  • Takesresponsibility for consistent completion and follow-up on all tasks.
  • Demonstrates a broader understanding of the job and looks for ways to improve Library services and support coworkers.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year of relevant experience.
  • Previousexperience with plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical repairs, heating/ventilation and air conditioning and masonry preferred.
  • General knowledge of common hand and power tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Communicate with staff and customers in person, via emailand over the phone.
  • May require either being in a stationary position or moving about for prolonged periods.
  • Moves equipment or library materials weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Must have reliable means of transportation to attend meetings, conferences, and perform work in other locations.
  • Typicallibrary environment, occasionally exposed to elements such as noise,dustand dirt, which make conditions less desirable than usually found in an office; may be exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Must have a valid Illinois drivers license.


Work Schedule:


Mon - Thu 12:30 - 9 p.m.

Fri & Sat OFF

Sunday 12:30 - 9 p.m.
