Job Description
FORWARD DEPLOYED ENGINEER | AI-NATIVE DATA FOR PRIVATE EQUITY
New York, NY | $200K–$275K
THE PITCH
Most engineers never see their software used on a real business problem by real operators. You will, within weeks.
This company helps PE-backed businesses build a reliable data foundation. It pulls together data from ERPs, CRMs, operating systems, and documents, then cleans and reconciles it so teams can run reporting, migrations, and workflow automation on top of it. More than 70% of the top 20 PE funds are already customers, and the work reaches hundreds of portfolio companies.
You’d be embedded with the client, building working software early and taking it into production on their real data. No long specs and no handoffs.
If you’ve come up through Palantir, Google, or Amazon and want that same level of engineering rigor with far more ownership and a much smaller team, this is built for you.
WHAT YOU’LL BUILD
The client-facing applications, integrations, and AI workflows that run on top of that data. Typical projects include:
- Post-M&A data migration. Turn messy contract, customer, and financial data into one source of truth after an acquisition.
- Document and data pipelines. Convert documents and systems of record into structured, cited output teams can trust.
- Custom operational apps. Replace paper, binder, and spreadsheet workflows with software the team actually runs on.
- Revenue and CRM operations. Clean pipeline data, automate renewals and pricing, and keep records in sync across systems.
- Integrations and AI agents. Pipe clean data into the ERP, CRM, and warehouse, and stand up agents that take on repetitive work.
WHAT THE JOB IS ACTUALLY LIKE
- You work alongside a Delivery Manager who owns the business problem, scope, and success criteria. You own the technical solution and how it gets built.
- You ship early, demo to the client, and improve the product from their feedback.
- You take apps into production, own testing and fixes, and make failures visible and recoverable.
- You reuse existing components where they fit and feed recurring client needs back to the core engineering team.
- You spend time on site with operators and executives, explaining technical choices plainly and raising blockers with a diagnosis and a proposed next step.
WHO THIS IS FOR
We’re especially interested in engineers from Palantir, Google, and Amazon. Forward deployed experience is a big plus, but strong product engineers from those teams are welcome too.
- 4+ years building and delivering production software, with real ownership of outcomes
- Fluent in TypeScript, with hands-on React, Node.js, API, and database experience across the full stack
- Practical Python and SQL for integrations, data processing, and AI workflows
- Real experience with agentic systems. You can show what you built, where it broke, and how you fixed it
- Comfortable using coding agents while verifying the code and being able to debug what you ship
- Good judgment turning an incomplete client brief into working software, deciding what to build first, and asking sharp questions
- A bias for simple, readable code that’s easy to change
- NYC-based and happy to travel to client sites
