Job Description

Job Description Are you the expert who keeps world-class instruments at their best?

Do you thrive on solving complex performance issues across LC‑MS and HPLC systems? Can you translate GMP/GLP rigor into reliable, audit-ready results? If so, Phenomenex—part of Danaher—is ready for you on our Torrance campus.

We’re not a typical scientific company. For nearly four decades, we’ve led in analytical chemistry to help researchers separate, purify, and protect what matters—from your shampoo and drinking water to life-saving medications. With the Danaher Business System, we convert ideas into measurable impact, and we do it within a culture where every perspective belongs.

Your challenge

Picture this: a critical LC‑MS assay is behind schedule. A vacuum issue threatens data integrity. You step in, triage the system, trace the root cause through fluidics and detectors, implement the fix, verify with qualification checks, and return the platform to service—fast. That’s the kind of impact you’ll make daily.

What you’ll do

  • Own installation, qualification support, calibration, preventive maintenance, and repairs for Mass Spectrometry (LC‑MS, GC‑MS, QTOF, triple quad) and HPLC/UPLC systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, software, and analytical performance issues to minimize downtime and protect data integrity.
  • Act as the instrumentation SME, advising teams in a regulated lab/manufacturing environment.

Where you fit

  • Function: Manufacturing Science & Technology
  • Reports to: Metrology Manager
  • Location: On-site in Torrance, CA

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering, Chemistry, Analytical Sciences, or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3+ years hands-on servicing of MS and HPLC systems in regulated pharma/biotech/diagnostics/CRO settings.
  • Expertise in LC‑MS/MS and HPLC/UPLC; strong grasp of fluidics, vacuum systems, detectors, and relevant software.
  • Demonstrated success working under GMP and/or GLP.

Great-to-have experience:

  • Automating analytical workflows to increase efficiency.
  • Using a CMMS for maintenance planning, documentation, and records.

Compensation, benefits, and growth

Salary range: $100,000 – $115,000, with eligibility for bonus/incentive pay. Phenomenex, a Danaher company, provides comprehensive benefits—medical, dental, vision, paid time off, and 401(k). Explore more at Danaher Benefits Info.

Note: No amount of pay is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable. The amount and availability of any bonus, commission, benefits, or any other form of compensation and benefits that are allocable to a particular employee remains in the Company's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified at the Company’s sole discretion, consistent with the law.
