Job Description
V. Chapman is a Los Angeles-based womenswear brand known for feminine, distinctive occasion dressing and a highly considered approach to silhouette, fabrication, fit, and detail. We are looking for an Associate Technical Designer to join our small, collaborative design team and play a meaningful role in bringing V. Chapman collections from concept through development and production. The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation, an excellent eye for detail, and an understanding of how design intent translates into garment construction. You should be highly organized, comfortable managing multiple styles at different stages of development, and confident communicating technical information clearly and accurately.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- \n
- Create, update, and maintain detailed tech packs throughout the product development process
- Develop technical flats and garment CADs in Adobe Illustrator
- Measure development, fit, pre-production, and production samples against specifications
- Inspect samples for construction, workmanship, proportion, fit, and consistency with design intent
- Participate in fittings and accurately document fit comments, measurement changes, and construction revisions
- Compile clear and detailed fit notes and communicate corrections to factories
- Maintain measurement specifications, construction details, BOM information, and other technical documentation
- Track sample revisions and follow up on outstanding development needs to keep styles moving on schedule
- Organize and manage development samples, fabric and trim swatches, approvals, and related reference materials
- Work closely with Design to translate creative concepts into technically executable garments
- Communicate directly and professionally with factories and vendors throughout the development process
- Identify construction, fit, or execution issues early and help develop practical solutions
- Support additional product development and production needs as they arise

You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and naturally attentive to small inconsistencies that others may overlook. You understand that technical design is both analytical and visual: a measurement can be correct on paper while a garment still does not feel right on the body. You are able to evaluate fit, proportion, construction, and design intent together rather than treating them as separate considerations. You communicate clearly, follow through consistently, and take pride in keeping your work accurate and organized. You are comfortable working independently but equally willing to jump in wherever needed as part of a small team. Most importantly, you are curious, resourceful, and eager to take ownership. V. - Bachelor’s degree, preferably from a fashion design, technical design, or related program
- 3+ years of professional experience in technical design - preferably experience working with dresses, occasionwear, corsetry, structured garments, or complex feminine silhouettes.
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, including technical flats and garment CADs
- Experience creating and maintaining detailed tech packs
- Strong understanding of garment construction, sewing techniques, and apparel terminology
- Experience accurately measuring garments and maintaining measurement specifications
- Experience participating in garment fittings and preparing clear, actionable fit comments
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills as they relate to garment measurements and specifications
- Exceptional organization, follow-through, and attention to detail
- Familiarity with woven apparel and delicate or specialty fabrics; experience communicating directly with overseas apparel factories a plus
