Job Description
Job Title: Quality Technician
Department: Quality
Reports To: Quality Manager
FLSA Status: Non-exempt (hourly)
Schedule: Full-time, 8-hour shift. Shift assignment is based on business needs and may change as additional shifts are added. Overtime, including occasional weekends, may be required to meet production schedules.
Position Summary
Proos Manufacturing designs and builds engineer-to-order logistics systems, with metal fabrication at the core of our operations. The Quality Technician verifies that purchased, in-process, and finished parts and weldments meet drawing, internal, and customer requirements. Because most of our work is built to order, the technician regularly inspects new part configurations and works closely with production, purchasing, and engineering to catch and resolve issues before parts ship. This is an entry-level role; Proos provides training on inspection methods, gauges, and systems.
Essential Functions
· Perform receiving inspection of purchased and outside-processed parts against drawings and purchase order requirements.
· Perform in-process and final inspection of fabricated parts and assemblies to confirm conformance to drawings and specifications before parts move to the next operation or ship.
· Perform visual weld inspection to drawing requirements and applicable AWS acceptance criteria, checking weld size, location, length, and visible defects.
· Measure parts using hand gauges, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, tape measures, squares, and weld gauges.
· Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and welding symbols to determine inspection requirements.
· Record inspection results accurately in Plex checksheets and maintain related quality records.
· Identify, tag, and segregate nonconforming material and report it promptly to the Quality Manager.
· Communicate inspection findings and quality concerns clearly to production, purchasing, engineering, and the Quality Manager.
· Follow Proos safety policies, quality procedures, and required PPE on the shop floor.
Qualifications
Required
· High school diploma or GED.
· Ability to read basic blueprints and drawings, or willingness to learn through on-the-job training.
· Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
· Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording results.
· Clear communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
· Reliable attendance and the ability to work scheduled shifts and overtime as needed.
· Willingness to cross-train in other departments as business needs require.
Preferred
· Experience in a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.
· Experience using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
· Experience with visual weld inspection or welding processes.
· Training in GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
· Experience with Plex or a similar ERP/MES system.
Physical Demands
· Stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout the shift; regularly bend, stoop, twist, and reach.
· Occasionally lift and carry parts up to 20 lbs from one location to another.
· Perform repetitive hand and arm motions when measuring and handling parts.
· Use close vision and depth perception to inspect parts and welds and read drawings and measuring tools.
Work Environment
· Office and manufacturing shop environment. On the shop floor, exposure to noise, sparks, welding arc light and fumes, sharp edges, and moving equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes.
· Required PPE must be worn in production areas, in line with Proos safety policies.
