Job Description
Job DescriptionFacilities Manager | The Front Climbing Club
Salt Lake City & South Main | Full-Time | $35–$40/hour DOE
Keep the Walls Standing, the Lights On, and the Community Climbing
You're the person who hears a weird rattle in the HVAC and can't rest until you've found it. You'd rather fix it yourself than write a ticket for someone else. If that sounds like you, we've got a building or two you'll love.
About The Front
The Front has been part of Utah's climbing scene since the 1980s, when we opened the state's first indoor climbing gym. Today we're a community of climbers, yogis, lifters, and first-timers who come to move, connect, and push each other a little further.
Our mission is simple: create innovative spaces that make climbing better, spark real connections, and grow an engaged community. That only works when the spaces themselves work, and that's where you come in.
About the Role
As our Facilities Manager, you'll own the upkeep of two of our busiest gyms, The Front Salt Lake City and The Front South Main. This is a fully hands-on role. You won't be managing a team. You are the team: the one with the tools, doing the repairs, maintenance, and improvements yourself.
You'll report to our General Managers. Most of your day (roughly 80–90%) is spent doing the work, and the rest goes to planning, record-keeping, and making sure every fix is done right the first time. Pay is $35–$40/hour, depending on experience.
What You'll Do
- Tackle repairs, maintenance, and improvements across both gyms, from small fixes to bigger projects
- Keep the building's systems running: HVAC, swamp coolers, natural gas heaters, plumbing, electrical, IT, and security
- Service and repair fitness equipment so members can train without interruptions
- Plan your work day by day and in short sprints using Outlook Calendar and the Microsoft Suite, and keep clean records of every repair
- Write SOPs so facility processes are documented and easy for anyone on staff to follow
- Run safety checks on equipment and keep both gyms up to building, health, and safety codes
- Walk the property inside and out to catch problems before they become emergencies
- Bring in and coordinate outside contractors and vendors when a job calls for it, and work with the GMs and CEO to keep spending smart
- Handle the seasons: winterizing, snow removal and ice management, landscaping help (mowing, edging, weeding, bed prep), storage, and keeping gym temps comfortable year-round
- Keep facilities spaces organized using 5S, and be a friendly, helpful face to members who stop you with a question
What You Bring
You might be a great fit if:
- You have at least 5 years of combined work experience, college, or trade school, including at least 3 years in facilities maintenance
- You're comfortable with the everyday stuff: changing filters, fixing swamp coolers, painting, patching walls, light plumbing, and basic electrical work
- You've worked on fire alarm systems or exercise equipment (a big bonus, not a must)
- You love a good troubleshooting puzzle and don't need someone looking over your shoulder to get it solved
- You're reliable, proactive, and show up ready to work
- You can manage your own time, prioritize when everything feels urgent, and stay organized
- You can explain a maintenance issue clearly to members and staff, without the jargon
- You genuinely care about the member experience and look for ways to make it better
- You geek out a little over a good checklist and a well-organized shop
- You can work the occasional night or weekend and take an urgent call when something breaks
- You have a valid driver's license
The physical side of the job: You'll be on your feet most of the day, regularly lifting, pushing, or carrying 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs. You'll climb ladders, stairs, and scaffolds, bend, reach, and do repetitive hand work. Color vision and depth perception are needed for reading wiring and safety indicators and for working at height.
The environment: Expect chalk dust, cleaning supplies, hand tools, ropes and gear underfoot, and regular outdoor work in Utah weather, from summer heat to winter snow. PPE is provided when needed.
Perks & Benefits
- Paid time off
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Life, short-term disability, long-term disability, and accident coverage
- 401(k) retirement plan
- Free gym membership at The Front
- Discounts on food and merchandise
- A chance to put your stamp on two of Utah's most loved climbing gyms
