Job Title: Systems Administrator
Reports To: Chief Technology Officer
At St. Johns College High School (SJC), student and teacher success depend on IT systems that help create an engaging academic environment. The System Administrator (Sys Admin) will protect our critical systems and assets, build solutions, implement new software and hardware, provide training, and assist in developing the overall IT strategy. The Sys Admin will empower breakthrough innovations, take on challenging assignments, lead initiatives, and be responsible for results. The administrator will also be expected to mentor and guide students in industry standards and best practices, as well as facilitate learning objectives for students.
Objectives of this role:
- Maintain essential IT infrastructure, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware.
- Participate in technology planning and implementation of projects with internal and external partners.
- Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
- Assist in the creation of procedures for, the maintenance of, and if needed, the implantation of the schools Disaster and Recovery Plan.
- Assist in the creation, ongoing evaluation, and implementation of the student tech support program.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the coordination, security, and efficiency of the IT infrastructure, including the network, hardware and devices, software, cloud platforms, firewalls, databases, and servers.
- Monitor data-center health using existing management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers when needed.
- Assists in the installation and/or oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network cabling and other networking equipment such as hubs, switches, and UPS.
- Maintain internal infrastructure requirements, including laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, security updates, support internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, and network segments.
- Perform routine and scheduled audits of all systems, including backups.
- Assist the help desk and other teams with troubleshooting to identify root cause and provide technical support when needed.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of IT systems, procedures, and best practices.
- Assist with classroom technology installation and maintenance, including interactive whiteboards, projectors, and other instructional tools.
- Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure seamless integration and support of new technologies and systems.
- Assist with the design and implementation of networking and cybersecurity courses.
- Mentor and model professional standards for students in the student support tech program.
- Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned.
- The Sys Admin will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer.
Required skills and qualifications:
- Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in computer science or related field
- Professional Certifications
- Experience with managing and setting up switches and routers
- Experience with or knowledge of programming languages and operating systems, current equipment and technologies, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, systems performance-monitoring tools, active directories, virtualization, HTTP traffic, content delivery, and caching
- Experience in project management, application design and integration, and cloud computing
- Expertise in analyzing and repairing large-scale distributed systems; creating volumes and assigning them to servers; and remote replication
- Ability and willingness to work with students
- Ability to lift 25 or more pounds
